I woke up really early the next day. While I was laying on my back my mind started thinking about our trip. After a few minutes I looked to my side to see Zinaida still being fast asleep. A smile appeared on my face. If she hadn't walked into my life I would never even have known about Brandon, for that I was very thankful. As quiet as I could I stepped out of bed, trying my best not to wake her. Before leaving my bedroom I glanced at my reflection in the length long mirror which was hanging next to the bedroom door. A soft chuckle left my lips when I saw my messy hair. I put my hand on the door handle, pushing it down slowly and opening the door as careful as I could. "Kreeeek" As soon as I heard that sound coming from the door I stopped and looked back at Zinaida. "Humhmm" was the only sound she made. A relieved sigh left my mouth as I turned back to the door, opening it a bit more so I could slide through it.
What the hell. My eyes grew big when I walked into the living room. I let my eyes go over the entire living room and then rested my gaze on Luke, who was laying face down on my couch with a bunch of empty beer and whisky bottles spread around him. For a moment I couldn't believe my eyes. The unbelief didn't last for long though, it soon made way for anger.
Without thinking I walked over to the kitchen grabbed a water bottle and marched back to Luke. With a controlled stream I emptied the bottle over his head. "Ah! What?" Luke yelled with surprise and sat up immediately. Confused and angry he looked around and then glared at me. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" he yelled while jumping up. At that same moment his hangover seemed to hit him, as he grabbed his head and sat back down without hesitation. Good, you finally get what you deserve. I couldn't feel any sympathy for him. What was he thinking coming back here, drunk. I crossed my arms and looked at him, waiting for him to explain what was going on. But he didn't explain anything, he just sat there with his head in his hands.
I couldn't hold myself back anymore, I couldn't handle him sitting there like it was normal. Like it was just a normal thing to crash on the couch of your ex. "What were you thinking Luke? Why are you here?" I cried out full of frustration. My eyes were fixed at him, my breathing got heavier because of how angry I was.
He finally looked at me with disbelief in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something but then shook his head. "I can't believe you" he said while putting his head in his hands again. This took me by surprise. What does he mean by that. I didn't do anything wrong, this is my house. I squinted my eyes and glared at him. "You think I did this" he gestured around him "to get back at you, don't you?" Taken by surprise again I stared at him. My anger slowly went away the more I looked at him. He looked so broken and lost, the way he sat there looking up at me. D-did I do this to him? Was I the one who made him feel like that? To make him do all this. I wanted to say something but I couldn't find my words. "Not everything is about you, you know" His facial expression changed but still had some of the hurt in it. "The last 6 months have been all about you. You were the one who was suffering, you were the one who had lost everything." He stood up and started pacing around the room. All I could do was stand there and follow his movements with my eyes. "Not for a second you thought about me, about how I felt." He suddenly looked right at me, finding my eyes. "You weren't the only one who lost something Allison. I lost you" he paused and waited for me to say something, but I stayed silent. "The moment you lost your memory, I lost you. I've always know it. Hell we've always known it. But I choose to believe things would go back to how they were if I kept treating you the same, if I acted like nothing had changed." He shook his head. "But I guess I was wrong." For all this time I had thought he didn't understand, that he didn't want to understand what I was going through, but truth was he knew.
"Will I ever get you back? The real you." he eventually asked, looking at me. For the longest time we stayed quiet, looking at each other. Keeping our eyes locked. He waiting for me to give him an answer and me not knowing what to say.
"What is going on here? Can you be quiet, some people are trying to sleep here." hearing Zinaida's voice broke our eyes apart. She appeared in the door opening and I could heard her gasping for air when she saw me and Luke standing in the middle of the room. The atmosphere changed from tense and emotional to uncomfortable. "Oh sh*t" she softly let out and looked from me to Luke. "I'll leave you two alone" She started to walk away but I stopped her. I turned back to Luke. "I owe you a huge apology but to be fair I don't know if I will ever turn back to who I was." Before I knew it I started to walk over to him. "I don't even know who I am yet. I need to find myself first." I explained and gently placed my hand on his cheek. The moment my hand touched his skin he closed his eyes and nuzzled my hand. He really does love me. "I hope you find your brother and you find what you are looking for." He said while opening his eyes and smiling. He understands now.
After that Luke left and I started to clean up his mess. I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice Zinaida still standing there, staring at me. "What was that all about?" she suddenly yelled out. I looked up at her and shrugged my shoulders. "We understand each other now." Leaving Zinaida speechless in the living room, I went back to cleaning. Me and Luke had been living next to each other for 6 months, we never really discussed or talked about what had happened. It was a miracle we survived as long as we did, without falling out like we did this time. From the corner of my eye I saw Zinaida throwing her hands in the air in defeat. A smirk formed on my face.
I had just cleaned everything up when my phone went of. "Zi, can you take it?" I yelled at Zinaide who was in the bedroom, where my phone also was. For a moment I listened to be sure she had actually answered. "Allison! The taxi who'll take us to the airport is here already!" She yelled in full panic. What! Was it that late already? I must have completely lost track of time. I rushed back over to the bedroom to get dressed and get everything ready as fast as I could, Zinaida did the same. To my surprise we were ready within the next 15 minutes.
"Let's go to Spain!" Zinaida shouted full of excitement as she ran out of my appartement. A smile formed on my lips. I am really doing this, I'm going to find Brandon.
