"Be brave enough to heal yourself even when it hurts."
I slowly walked to the white gates, when I noticed a boy, leaning against the wall. He stared into the distance, his eyes sparkling with expectation and his rosy cheeks were beaming with excitement.
"What are you doing here?" I asked politely not to startle him.
"I'm waiting for Saturday. My father will come and pick me up." he said mumbled distantly.
"But today is not Saturday." I said slowly.
"Pèpinot! Pèpinot!" Called out an old man who was running towards the gates, stumbling over his own feet. It seemed like he didn't even notice me. When he finally noticed me he sent me a kind smile. I was quite taken aback, since I wasn't really used to kind gestures. He looked in his pockets for his keys and opened the gate.
"His parents had died during war." he explained as he took Pèpinot's hand .
My heart ached for this young boy and I could only imagine what he was feeling.
"But why haven't you told him? Why do you let him suffer like this?" I've asked, getting mad.
"We did but he stil waits for Saturdays, since his pere has promised him he would come and pick him up."
"Oh, I'm so sorry for getting mad." I said, feeling my heart sink because of the story. I looked away to hide the tears that formed in my eyes. I was always embarrassed to show my emotions. I don't want for people to perceive me as weak.
"It's quite all right, I'm Maxence, the school's caretaker." He explained as stretched out his head.
"My name is Lauren." I shook his hand and we started walking towards school. The closer we were getting, the more terrified I was becoming.
I could already see the glimpses of the building I will now get to call home, although this place felt nothing like home. The building was old, gray and it radiates a really negative and depressing energy. I sighed slowly before I entered the place.
When I hesitantly stepped through the entrance I've noticed a tall and strict looking man. His cold eyes met mine and I looked away almost instantly.
"I'm monsieur Rachin, headmaster of this school." He spoked with a dangerously low and raspy voice.
"Nice to met you. I am La-"
"I am very well aware of who you are." I was taken aback by this.
"Now, listen to me very carefully, mademoiselle. You will obey orders, you will not ask questions and you will follow the rules or else there will be consequences. Understood?"
"Oui, monsieur."
"Off to class you go!" He snapped.
I got an uneasy feeling as I was walking up stairs. His gaze was burning at the back of my head. I picked up the pace when I heard a loud noise. I looked back and there was old Maxence holding his hand on his right eye as the blood was oozing out of it. Mr. Rachin walked right past him with no care and examined the broken glass on the door, Maxence was trying to open.
"Bloody Le Querrec!" he shouted, his veins popping out on his temples.
"You there, go and ring the bell outside."He pointed to me.
As I was standing outside I heard a stampede of footsteps coming closer and closer. Soon there were probably about 200 students standing outside standing in straight line. Mr. Rachin slowly walked through the door, fixating his look on one particular boy.
He stopped on the stairs and straightened his jacket. There was a man standing on his left. I asumed he was a teacher. He was quite short, but he had a kind and welcoming look on his face that he desperately tried to suppress but he failed miserably.
"Bonjour"
"Bonjour, monsieur" They answered in unison.
"Someone set up a bobby trap. Old Maxence got seriously injured." He explained with no emotion whatsoever.
"Le Querrec please step foward."
Boy about my age stepped forward. A man standing on Rachin's right walked towards him, grabbed him by his hair and dragged him past me.
All the thoughts about my stepfather came flooding back and I was on the verge of crying.
"We also got a new student today. Lauren Durant." he said as he pointed towards me. All 200 heads turned towards me and I just quickly wiped away a tear that made its way down my rosy cheek.
I was examining the crowd and when I locked eyes met with the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen. At the moment I felt so safe that I could just stand there all day and gaze at the angelic blue orbs.
"Now go to class imediately!"I snapped back into reality but I still managed to catch one last glimpse. So I thought.
We started walking towards class. As I got in to the classrom it was already completely full. There was only one table left, so I quickly walked to the table when I tripped over something. Few girls on my right started to laugh and my vision started to get blurry from the tears that were threatening to spill.
"Oh yes what a great day." I muttered quietly under my breath.
"Here let me help you."A voice above me said as the person kindly offered me a helping hand.
"Thanks." I said with a small smile.
As I looked up I was met with same blue eyes as before.
"I'm Pierre. Pierre Morhange." he introduced himself with a slight smile.
"I'm Lauren. Lauren Durant, the new girl."
"Nice to meet you, Lauren." He said.
"Nice to meet you too, Pierre." I quietly replied. and fixed my clothes.
He offered me a small smile before he joined his group of friends. I felt butterflies form in my stomach and I could feel my face beaming with happiness. Is this the thing called love that I have been reading so much about?
When I finally found my seat I absentmindedly started to scribble and doodle in my notebook when I felt a small tap on my shoulder. I turned around and was to my delight met with beaming face that belonged to no other than Pèpinot.
"Hi Pèpinot!" I said cheerfuly.
"Hi." he said with a huge smile and I noticed he was missing two front teeth.
The door to the classrom opened and everything went quiet.
"Hello students, I'm monsieur Clément Mathieu and I will be your new music teacher."
