I slowly opened my eyes to a bright white ceiling. There were lights everywhere and it was as bright as heaven. "She's awake!" I heard a nurse beside me yell. They nurse was joined by a doctor who looked down at me. They both had masks over their noses and mouths and lunch lady looking caps. "Give her a mild sedative," the doctor said. The nurse nodded and prepared a syringe. She gave me a shot in my arm and I felt myself drift off into a sleep again.
Fisher's Point Of View
I clutched my cowboy hat as I saw Indie go into the operation room. She had nurses buzzing around her. I went over to Indie's parents who were sitting somberly in two chairs. I took a seat next to her mom. A few minutes later a doctor came out of the room. "Mr and Mrs Wiles?" he asked. We all scrambled to our feet and looked nervously at the doctor. "Indie has suffered from, major external wounds, a mild concussion, and a chip has been broken off of her vertebrae," My blood ran cold as he said the last words. "We're going to have to do surgery to place the chip back." he said. Indie's dad nodded. "Do what you have to do Doc," He said. I could hear the pain in his voice. The doctor nodded and briskly returned to the operation room.
For the next five hours, all three of us sat in silence. At 1:30 AM, the exhausted looking doctor exited the room. He walked over to us. "She is sleeping," "The chip is back in it's rightful place, but it will take 4 months of recuperation and alot of bed rest for her to heal, physically and emotionally," he said. 'I've seen many of these cases, and from what I see, the emotional recovery is most often the worst." He continued. "Can we see her?" Mrs Wiles spoke softly. The doctor nodded. "Just for a few minutes," he motioned for us to follow him. They'd take Indie through another door and to a recovery room.
Her hair was tangled and her face was bruised pretty bad. Her head was bandaged and her entire neck and mid section was in a brace. She looked so peaceful. "Oh my baby," her mother's hands shook as she reached for Indie's hand. I looked at her father, there were tears falling down his face. They both leaned over Indie and stared at her. I felt myself start to tear up. I left the room, crying big ol' whale tears.
