"Jake, you really need to stop doing this." Payton chastised her brother, with absolutely no shock that her face was painted in permanent marker.
"I'll stop doing that the day pigs' fly, Sis" Jake told his sister.
Payton was used to this. Every year, on his birthday, Payton's little brother drew on her face. Payton smiled as she remembered how this tradition started.
Her brother had turned two, and she had given him washable markers for his birthday. At 7 years old, she thought that her brother was capable for such an activity. Payton had used all of her leftover tooth-fairy money to buy the 3-dollar gift.
By mid-afternoon, her brother had chased her down, and scribbled all over her young face. She had cried for two hours, thinking the marker would stay tattooed on her face forever. It wasn't until her mother's best friend, Maybelle, sat down and explained that the marker would wash out, that she stopped crying.
Of course, later that night, Maybelle's son, Nate, had made fun of her. She'd ignored Nate, though. Instead, she'd been enchanted by his sister, Tayla. More precisely, her wide blue eyes. Tayla was born on the same day as Jake, but looked much more mature. Payton knew that Tayla would grow up to be a beauty queen, with her caramel colored hair, and lush pink lips.
And she was right. Tayla grew up to be a pretty girl. Her hair became a chestnut-brown, but her eyes stayed the same.
"Pay! You started zoning out." Jake smirked. "Were you thinking about how hot Nate is? You know, he likes you."
"Actually, I was thinking about how pretty Tayla has become. I wish I looked like that when I was 17." Payton laugh, ignoring his comment.
"Come on, Pay. She's not as pretty as you!" Jake lied. Anyone could see that Jake was lying. Sure, Payton was cute, but Payton wasn't Taylor. If Payton hadn't known Jake, she would've thought he liked Taylor. Payton knew that he hated her. Because of their birthdays, Taylor and Jake were always at war.
One year, at his party, Taylor threw cake at Jake. The next, Jake tore Taylor's dress. The real tie-breaker was last year, when both turned 16 on a Saturday. Neither of them wanted to have their party on a different day, so they didn't. It was a disaster. Everyone at school went to each party for half the time.
"At least you're special, Payton. Taylor isn't an award-winning popstar, is she?" Jake said.
Payton smiled. It was her big secret. Payton Miller was Kiera Mead. Payton had released 3 albums, and all of them had reached #1 on the charts. She'd won over 6 awards. 8 of her singles had been on the Top 5 charts.
Only her family and Maybelle's knew about her secret, though. No one could tell that the blonde haired, brown eyed wallflower was actually the figure in all teenage guy's dreams. She'd always worn her redhead wig, and hazel contacts.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, Bro." Payton giggled.
