Ch. 15: A Sleepover

As they pull into the driveway of J-Fred's house, Alice turns to him and asks, "Do your parents know that we're dating?"

He shakes his head. "I can't trust them to keep a secret from the others. They'd accidentally spill the beans." 

Alice giggles and nods. They walk into the house hand-in-hand. "Joey, you need to stop leaving your underwear lying around!" his mom calls from the other room. Alice starts laughing as J-Fred blushes. His mom walks into the room and stops when she sees Alice. "Oh...hello, Alice. I wasn't expecting to see you here..."

"A fire started in her house, and she needed somewhere to stay the night," J-Fred lies casually. 

"Oh, well you're welcome to have dinner with us" she smiles.

J-Fred leads Alice into the kitchen where his dad is getting some food. He turns and smiles at Alice. "Ooh, I see J-Fred is bringing another girl home! How are you, Alice?" J-Fred facepalms when his dad mentions bringing home another girl. 

"We'll be eating outside," J-Fred announces as he grabs some food in one hand and Alice's arm in the other. He leads her out to the backyard and closes the door behind them. Cali, J-Fred's dog, races over to give Alice a warm welcome. 

"Another girl?" Alice teases. "How many girls do you bring home, Joey?" 

"Not that many," J-Fred answers as he turns red again. "Besides, none of them are as amazing as you are." 

Alice smiles and walks over to rest on the fence. She stares up at the stars in the sky. J-Fred stands by the pool, watching her silently. She looks over at him. "Are you okay?" she asks. "You look nervous." He nods and walks over to her. "Why did you invite me over anyways? You know I could have just seen you tomorrow."

J-Fred rubs his hands together nervously. "I actually wanted to ask you a question..." He takes a deep breath and says, "I know we haven't known each other for that long, and we haven't been dating that long, but I really like you. Like, I really like you." He shifts nervously again. "This may be too soon, but I just have to ask you. Will you be my girlfriend, and the two of us will be...exclusive?" 

There is a moment where Alice just stares, surprised, at J-Fred. There is silence. "Of course!" Alice cries out. She throws her arms around his neck and gives him a big hug.

J-Fred lifts her off the ground in a bear hug and announces to the world, "She said yes! This is my girlfriend, Alice Lester!" He twirls her around in the air as she giggles and buries her head in his neck. 

When he sets her back down, she asks, "Why were you so nervous to ask me? Did you really think I would say no?"

He shrugs. "I was just really scared that I would lose you, I guess."

After they eat dinner and stare up at the stars, they go back inside to go up to his room for the night. Alice goes downstairs to get some water, and she runs into J-Fred's mom. She gives Alice a big hug and whispers, "Good luck with that idiot."

Alice gets nervous once she realizes that she saw them outside. "You can't tell anyone!" she whispers. The mom just winks at her and walks away.

Alice goes upstairs and changes into J-Fred's Team Edge shirt for the night, which is more like a nightgown for her. It almost falls to her knees. J-Fred tackles her onto his bed and smiles. "You look goood in my t-shirt. Maybe I should have you wear that more often." He winks at her. She laughs and shoves him off the bed and onto the floor. He gets up and sighs, "Okay, I'll go sleep on the couch downstairs then...would you mind getting some blankets from the other?"

Alice fetches them, but when she comes back, J-Fred is passed out on the bed, snoring. She rolls her eyes. She does not want to wake up the sleeping giant, so she just crawls into bed next to her new boyfriend. After a few seconds, he hugs her and pulls her up close against him. J-Fred's plan worked; he wanted Alice to think he was asleep so he could get to cuddle with her. The two fall asleep like that.
