Kat  was back in her hotel room thoughts racing through her mind faster than a whirlpool. So many theories, so many possibilities but the truth? Would she ever find it? or would it taunt her forever lurking in the darkness only to be glimpsed but never to be found. She had left the prison complex having to repeatedly swear to her father she would be back tomorrow, that she wasn't leaving him. Not again. Though he was the parent and she the daughter it was her job to see that he would be fine and to keep his spirits up in that isolated, terrifying building. After being there once she never wanted to go back but she couldn't bear to let her father down like that. If he had to stay there for years of his life surely she could bear to spend a few minutes every day. Because she planned on staying here for a while, it was only right. A few months, a year?

Time didn't matter any more to her. Life had lost it's magic years ago and god knows she wished she could get that magic back. But it had drifted away like his brilliant life. Burning with creativity and passion just to give up and die. Her life entwined with his, when he had died a part of her had died with him. And there was no way to resurrect that part of her again. She suddenly jerked upright with astonishment, this was when the tears usually came but not now. Why? she couldn't process this. Was it possible she was finally moving on? Forgetting him? No, she could never forget him: her and Sam always no matter what.

She made her way unsteadily to the balcony overlooking the city. The night was bitterly cold but at this moment she just couldn't care. Running a hand through her dark curls and taking a deep breath of cold air in she closed her eyes trying to picture his face in her mind.

Except something happened that had never happened before she couldn't do it. She could see his black hair, messy as always and his tall frame but not his face. His beautiful perfect face. Gripping the balcony rail tightly with both hands she clenched her teeth together to keep from screaming. The tears ran freely down her cheeks now as she watched the city pass by. She could end it now, give up on everything, on life altogether. It would be so easy, just to let herself fall, to have all her fears and sadness obliterated in an instant. But no she couldn't because she had to do this for him. For Sam. The truth was all she could do for him now and it would have to be enough.

Going back into the hotel room she thought she saw someone watching her from the shadows but quickly disregarded it as paranoia. Lying back down on the bed she whispered: "I'm so sorry Sam" and instantly fell into a peaceful sleep because it was only when she slept that she could escape the real world and be free from her monsters.

The next morning she woke gasping in pain. She had slept with her whole body weight on one arm and now it felt like her body was on fire. In her haste to see her father she had forgotten her pills and injections. "Stupid Kat" she muttered angrily to herself. She dressed slowly careful not to cause any more damage to her already throbbing arm. For anyone else this wouldn't be a big deal but she knew she would have to go to the doctors immediately.

Once outside of the hotel she wheeled herself over to the bus station which was vacated of all life. She was barely there a few minutes when she felt a warm hand on her arm and as she looked up to see who it was another warm hand clamped down over her mouth making escape impossible. As much as she tried to keep calm she couldn't help the shivers of fear that crept up her spine. A gun was pressed to her temple hidden beneath her attackers jacket. She looked up into her attackers face. She guessed him to be in his mid thirties, quite tall and well built but strangely enough not particularly intimidating. He pushed her wheelchair away from the bus station his gun never leaving the side of her head. "Do everything I say and I won't hurt you" he said into her ear. She nodded slowly as Nathan having completed his mission wheeled her away.
