"Pass the milk," Jenna was saying to Macy when I entered the kitchen.
My father, who was looking out of the window ,drinking a cup of coffee, noticed me first. He turned around and smiled at me.
"So, our highness finally decided to show up?"
I frowned jokingly at this and said, "Morning dad."
He was wearing his light blue worn off jeans, with a plain white T-shirt. He looked like came out of the shower because his dark brown hair, that was now full of grey streaks, was still wet.
I walked over to one of the cupboards, reached up to open it and got out a cereal bar. I turned around and sat on the counter beneath it, opening the cereal bar.
"I'll be in my office if you need me," my father was saying as he left the kitchen. "Oh, and don't think about starting an after party, I have some paper work to finish."
Jenna and Macy giggled at this, and my father winked at them before closing the kitchen door.
"Where did you go last night?" Jenna asked me after my father left. She had dark rings under her eyes, and her hair was a mess. She must have stayed up late last night.
"To bed," I simply replied, jumped down the counter and walked over to the chair beside Macy's. I pulled it out from under the table and sat down.
"So early?" Jenna said shoving a spoon of fruit salad into her mouth. "You barely danced with anybody."
I shrugged taking a bite from my cereal bar, "I was tired."
"Right," Jenna said and put her spoon back into her, now empty, salad bowl. "Anyhow, who was that cute guy you were talking to yesterday?"
I looked at her and saw she was grinning, "Just this guy called Owen James, I think. Plus, I thought he was rather anno-"
I stopped talking when suddenly Macy, who had been silent the whole time, dropped her spoon into her cereal bowl making a loud splash sound.
"Did you just say Owen James?" she looked at me rather shocked.
I felt a little uncomfortable with her looking at me like that and slowly said, "Yeah, why?"
She shrieked and suddenly started smiling like an idiot, "Oh my god. Owen James was at my party! I can't wait to tell Kelly."
I frowned at her. I loved Macy a lot, but sometimes she wasn't more than an annoying teenage girl. She jumped up and started to head for the door, but stopped when I called, "Wait, tell me what's so special about him?"
She turned around, her loose hair flying into her face. She moved it away with her hand, walked back to her chair, and sat back down, "Sorry."
I motioned her with my hand to start talking.
"You know how every school has their most popular guy?" she began saying, "Well that was Owen James at our school. He always had great marks, was one of the best athletesUpper East Sideever had and most people always said he had a great future in running. One never saw him alone, he was always surrounded by a circle of friends and admires."
I rolled my eyes and sat back, "So this is just one of those the-hottest-guy-in-school-attended-my party moments?"
Macy held up her hand meaning for me to stop talking, "I wasn't done; and by the way he graduated last year, so he practically isn't really at my school anymore."
I frowned, "You get my point."
"Anyway," Macy said raising her voice a little, and ignoring my comment. "Last year was his senior year. Everything was going fine and he was working to get a scholarship forPrinceton. But then, shortly after the second term started, he suddenly dropped out of all activities; stopped going to parties, lost contact to all his friends, broke up with his girlfriend Sarah, whom he had been dating for two and a half years.
