I grab my tattered packing bag, and fill it with a loaf of bread and a few pastries, made straight out of my mother's bakery. I hear my best friend Remi, shuffling right behind me in the kitchen as she talks up a storm.
"You know, the sooner we leave, the sooner we will get back," She says.
"We have to pack food and supplies, just in case something bad happens, Remi. You know the drill." I tell her, blowing the black strip of hair out of my face and heading upstairs to pack some first aid medical supplies. Remi follows behind me.
"Nothing bad will happen, Sunny. Your mom is just a worry-wart." Remi laughs.
"That's what I would of thought, too, before I lost my father..."
That shut her right up.Remi and her Fireworm, Nightlight, are as I walk outside. I climb on the back of my beautiful Albino night fury, Tendra. Along with Remi and her loyal dragon, Tendra is one of my companions. Wherever you would see me, you see her. We are a team of two... Okay, a team of four.
"Would you do the honors?" I ask Remi with a grin.
"Of course!" She says with her signature smile, and before I could blink, her and Nightlight take off, leaving a gust of wind behind.
I look down at Tendra and pet her snow white, scaly back.
"How 'bout it, pal" I say as I feel us leave into the grey painted sky.
We quickly catch up to Remi and Nightlight. Our evening ride begins with us getting lost, and performing silly stunts on the backs of our dragons. Our laughter is instantly diminished by a bright flash, right above our heads. Heavy raindrops begin falling on our skin.
"We can't fly in this," I call over to Remi and she just shrugs.
"I guess we'll have to fly over it."
"We can't do that! There's still a chance we will get struck by lightning."
There is barely time to think this through. The rain becomes heavier, millions of raindrops making loud splashes against the sea below us.
"We are so far from home, Sunny! Where else are we supposed to go? Pull out your map or your compass or whatever! There has to be a village near here!" She rambles on.
I pull out the map my mother gave me of our village and other places within a hundred miles of us. Leaning over the fragile paper didn't help much to keep the rain from hitting it, but I manage to find where we need to go.
Only Nightlight can show us exactly which direction to go, however, since fireworms had strong navigation.
"Tell Nightlight to lead the way to Berk," I say.
