At exactly 11:30 AM, Kyle knocked on my front door. He had planned to take me to supposedly the "best diner in the state" for lunch and then go to the local cinema for a movie.
I was beyond nervous. Naturally I am already an anxious person without any external stimulus but in that moment I was a mess. I wasn't sure if it was a date or not.
He was just talking about the movie Gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney that just came out the other week and how he really wanted to see it so he asked me to go with him. I seriously think he just asked me because no one else would go with him. I definitely was just the last resort. And that only made me more nervous.
Dressed in a simple black circle skirt and a navy blue flowy tank, I greeted Kyle at the door.
"Hey, Daisy. You ready to go?" Kyle asked, flashing that annoyingly cute half smile boys always do.
I nodded my head as I made my way out the door and to his car. It wasn't as luxurious as Ronan's car but a Mercedes was nothing to complain about. Practically everyone in town owned a luxury car. It was intimidating.
I slid into the passenger seat and threw on my seat belt as Kyle started the car.
He asked if I wanted the radio on. I gladly accepted and immediately a top 40 station came in blasting the Mirrors by Justin Timberlake, as usual. I was just happy there was never going to be any silence. As much as I am alone, I hate the silence. I also need music playing or the tv on in the background. Silence drove me crazy.
"So the place we're going to is seriously the best. Everyone always goes there after any sports event at school. They seriously have the best burgers and shakes. Wait," he paused and glanced at me. "you eat burgers and stuff right?"
I smiled and eagerly nodded my head up and down. I lived for burgers and fries.
Kyle gave a hearty laugh. "Alright good. I can't stand those girls who won't eat a burger or anything especially in front of a guy. It's so annoying. "
I smiled back at him not quite big enough to mean I agree but not small enough to mean that a disagree. Just enough to say I was listening and don't have an opinion on the matter.
After some idle one sided chit chat we reached the diner. "Montvale City Diner" what a creative name, I thought to myself.
We walked in and there were a good number of people sitting around. Kyle came to the left side of the seating area and motioned to the right and left.
"Table or booth?"
I gave him the innate look meaning "are you serious right now" that everyone has mastered by the end of high school.
"Booth is it. Thank god. We could not be friends if you picked table I'm not even kidding." He laughed.
We sat on opposite sides, the window to the right of me. I could clearly see people passing by through the glass, wandering around the area or to their cars. It was a great spot to people watch because you could also see everyone in the diner from that spot.
"Oh hey Kyle. Here again?" The waitress ,who's name was Katie according to her name plate, said smiling. She was a smaller girl. Maybe 5'1" or 2". Young looking, possibly my age or a year younger. Blue eyes, strawberry blonde hair. She was very pretty. Probably a super sweet girl.
"I practically live here." He informed me.
"Oh! You're the new senior girl right?" Her eyes lit with recognition.
I smiled in confirmation.
"Cool. I'm a Junior at the high school but even I know about you. I guess its a big deal everywhere in the school when a new girl comes in and starts dating Ronan Wilson."
