Long Time, No See

The Second Knight Fright

"Kouji?" "Tsukiko?" We smile at each other; I drop my stuff and run over to him. He opens his arms and I accept them; he pulls me towards him and swings me around. When he finally stops I wrap my arms around his waist and bury my head into his chest as he wraps his arms around my shoulders and lays his chin on the top of my head. I always was short compared to him. When we pulled away, I smiled and looked at him as he did the same.

"You look great!" we said in unison

"Its been so long!" we said again. We just smiled and laughed. *beep beep* He looked down and took out a blue, cream, and silver digivice just like mine.

"Kouji Minimoto, commence your search."

"Search? For what?"

"The spirit."

"How do you know my name anyway?"

"Find the spirit and you will find the answers to all your questions."

"Thats not good enough, I'm not just some lap dog you can order around, you know?" it stayed silent. "What is this spirit anyway?" no answer. "And how do I even know where to look for it." the screen went blank. I put my hand on his shoulder to try as calm him down when a sphere-like thing showed up.

"What should we do now?"

He looked at me, "We have no choice, we gotta follow the map and see where it goes."

I pick up my stuff and started walking with Kouji. It was a silent walk, which wasn't unusual for us back then but he looked so concentrated I didn't want to bother him, even though there were a million questions racing through my mind. 'How have you been? Whats happened since I left? Did you think about me even after all this time?' I was looking down as I walked until I realized Kouji wasn't with me anymore.

"Kouji?" I yelled

"Over here!" he answered. I followed the sound of his voice until I saw him in front of some kind of metal cave. He was looking at the map, it was almost dead center.

"Its so close, you can feel it can't you?" I asked, he nodded. So we walked down into said cave. It was dank and had a lot of tall, cylinder-like machines spread out everywhere. We were looking in every nook and cranny trying to find whatever a spirit was. I walk out onto this ledge and see great big room below me. Just then I hear people scream, two seconds later I see a little boy and a much bigger boy run across the room being chased by little gray blobs.

"Kouji!" He appears at my side in a matter of seconds, we look at each other than he jumps onto a pole and slides down to help the two boys.

"Hey don't take all the fun." I yell as I jump to another pole and start sliding down. Kouji takes half and I got the others. I was always good a martial arts but never got to try it out on someone. I kicked and punched whatever was coming at me. They looked like gray pumpkins with a face and ears. I had smashed to last one to the wall when a light appeared behind me. When I turn around a see Kouji facing down a huge mass of gray goo.

"Acid sludge." it yells and he runs to save the little boy.

"Kouji look out!!" he neared a big hole in the room and had no where else to go. Thats when a red and orange knight with long blonde hair flew in a protected them until a bright light surrounded him and he turned into a boy with goggles.

"What happened, I changed back into me?" I heard him say.

"I'm still here," the monster said, "Acid Sludge." Goggles dove over in front of Kouji in an attempt to save the little boy but ended up knocking Kouji down the hole.

"KOUJI!!" I screamed and ran over to the edge of the pit. I felt a tugging on my arm and swatted it away.

"Come on we gotta go, its gonna attack again." I turned and saw goggles. Rage and adrenaline coursed through my veins.

"Don't you dare tell me what to do little boy. You just pushed my best friend down into a pit of death and expect me to listen to you? No, go away!" I yelled at him as tears formed in my eyes, threatening to spill over. Suddenly all the light in the room bent towards the pit. Seconds later another knight, this time navy, cream, and sliver, was hovering over the pit. What was that thing and what happened to Kouji? 'It killed him, he's dead.' I thought. I let out a bloodcurdling scream and started running away from it, I picked a tunnel and kept running and wouldn't stop until I made it outside. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and just ran faster. When I made it out I just kept going, I would never be far enough away from the thing that killed my best friend. I turned a sharp corner and tripped; I fell right on my face in a bush and blacked out almost instantly.

'Tsukiko! Its me, Kouji!' I tried to say but nothing came out. I watched her run out in terror. Her face flashed before his eyes; her mouth was open in an 'O' shape and her usually icy blue eyes darkened to a purple color as her skin paled to almost white. 'This is for Tsukiko.' I thought as I ran towards Raremon.

"Acid Sludge" it yelled. I dodged it easily. Running on a wall I yelled, "Lobokindo", then jumped and stabbed the monster on the top of its head. A white bar code surrounded the creature. "Be cleased by the Light!" I said holding out my digivice and running it across the bar, "Fractal Code digitize!" I pulled my arm back and let the bar enter. The same white light appeared around me as I turned back into myself landing on my hands and knees breathing heavily.

"Hey, you okay? Let me help you up."

"Don't touch me." I growled, where did she go? Why did she run off like that? I stood up on shaky legs.

"Which way?" I asked, and just got blank stares. "The girl, which way did the girl go?" They pointed across the room to another entrance. I nodded and started running as well as I could on my fatigued legs. It took along time but I finally found an exit. I started towards it, once outside I found a running trail through the weeds. I followed it until it stopped abruptly. I looked all around me, I almost left when I saw a large black thing in the middle of the trees. I went over to see what it was a instantly recognized it as Tsukiko's backpack she was carrying earlier. 'Now where did you go?' I thought. Soon after a saw a little bit of shoe sticking out of a bush. I ran over and found the rest of her body. I lifted her out of the bush and walked to the nearest tree. I sat down and laid her head on my lap. I started stroking her long black hair out of her face and rubbing her back. I sighed, 'Now what I'm I supposed to do?'

Night fell rapidly afterwards and I had a fire built fairly quick. She lays by the tree, unmoving and unwaking. I watch her through the flames and think about how many things I want to ask and tell her when she wakes up, if she ever will. I sigh and lay down in the grass, close my eyes and try to fall asleep.
