My mind was whizzing like a wild rocket. Sweat was gushing from my forehead, creating a giant salty puddle on the ground I laid strewn on. Breath decelerating gradually, I was panting like an overworked dog. I felt voices, cold and unfamiliar ringing in my ears, asking if I were still alive. Scarily I didn't know the answer to that question, all I could see was blurry shapes semblance in my eyes. Abstract colours danced in front of me as if they were Broadway performers. They kept transitioning into different shapes once I changed my train of thought, It filled me with satisfaction as I grew used to it.
I was forced to snap out of this state of relaxation though. As a tonality of great anger deafened my ears and had my heart rate beating at a regular pace again.
'Wake up child! You're already late for the meeting with King Lark Umbra. Come on, function your eyes already?' It bellowed. My eyes snapped open (clear as day), the blurriness had stopped. My gaze met a tall man dressed in a bright red attire and dark shades. He looked at me motionless then grasped my hand to pull me up from the ground. It wasn't just his interesting choice of outfit that had me intrigued. It was the room that we were stood in. I was stood in a huge domain of purple. Essences of violet, lilac, magenta and indigo flooded the room, glitter on the walls sparkling like gems, and the steamy ground surrounded my feet with fog and a nice chilli air bath. It was like a large auditorium, great warmth flurried my body.
I then peered behind me to discover what the majestic noise was that caught my attention. Four huge door frames stood before me. They each contained a different colour wobbling like a bubble wand in the centre of the frame. One was Blue, the next was Green, the third was yellow, and the final one was red. It looked magical. Like one of those old time travelling machines, like... a portal. (No Serena, it can't be! Don't be so silly).
'Let's move, girl. Lark doesn't have time for the slackers. You don't wanna know what he does to them,' commanded the man in red. Confidently, I removed my hand from his clutches.
'Please let me go sir! I'm afraid you've been mislead. One of your men abducted me from my home town in Tarmonty and brought me here. He claims to know me, but-but how?' I asked. The man in red loosened his grip ever so slightly.
'Call me Red,' he responded. 'I'm head of the fire element around these parts. Us workers of our rightful King and ruler Lark Umbra, never fail to identify our targets. And you, lovely Serena Pavock are no different.' My stomach took a huge leap that left me feeling all sore and queasy on the inside. How did he know my name?
'What was your reason for targeting me?' I asked him, completely oblivious of the fact at that point, I had magical powers.
'Why your magic of course!' Red chuckled loudly. 'You are on Overcast Island. The only place in the universe that we take the supernaturals like you, Serena, and bring you to a place where you can be yourself. Now, Lark is going to kill me If you're not down by his palace right now. You need to be put in your element.' I looked at him as if he were not human at all. More like a revolting creature that served no business being in this world. Whatever you wanted to compare him to, I was flabbergasted. Did he really think I was going to go through with meeting this supposed King Lark Umbra? Did he honestly think I was just going to leave my family in Tarmonty behind? (No matter how much they get on my nerves).
'I'm not going!' I declared. 'I may not be powerless, but I'm still half normal. My family love me for who I am.'
'Is that so, now?' Red said suspiciously. 'If they love you so much, then how come you can't be honest with one another? How come you can't tell them who you really are?' My lips trembled.
'They would never understand,' I said in a mutter. 'I would never be treated the way I've always wanted them to. I'm failing as being their daughter anyway. It's best I keep it to myself.' I only just realised what I said when Red nodded with a smile.
'Exactly! They don't understand you, never have... and never will. That's why Lark Umbra brought us here. To a place where people like us are respected, praised, and encouraged to pursue our magic.' I thought long and hard. What I was feeling was uselessness. The remark I had made about my family made me feel unworthy and unloved. I didn't want to be on Overcast Island, not one crumby bit. But right now, what choice did I have. I would find a way out, just not today. I was going to find my way back to Tarmonty. I would be reunited with my family and tell them everything. Just not today.
Red snapped his fingers at the wall facing the two of us. Amber sparks flew from his fingertips and started beating at all the wall. Before I knew it, a purple concealed door had opened before me. The first thought that sprung to my hazy mind, this wasn't Tarmonty!
