Malaki and I sat at the carpool area waiting on Gina it was almost five and I'm almost positive we aren't allowed on campus unless we're helping a teacher or something like that. No one noticed so we just waited, Malaki read his novel while I stared at our schools newsletter. I didn't see anything interesting just bullshit about upcoming graduation rehearsals and things like that.
"Jay I gotta question." Malaki caught my attention. Scratching the side of my face I looked up at him and sat my newsletter down.
"What?"
"Why is tomatoes a fruit?" He asked incorrectly.
"It's why are tomatoes a fruit. " I corrected him."And because they have seeds, my teacher told me anything with seeds is a fruit."
"So corn is a fruit?" He questioned smiling. I chuckled and shook my head no, "it's a starch idiot and you knew that."
"Nuh-uh."
"Whatever," I sighed. I looked away from him and back at the road, still no one showed up. I had work at six and I hate showing up late, it just leaves a bad impression on my end even though it isn't my fault. "It looks like they not coming wanna walk?"
"They're, it's they're not coming Bubba. Stop speaking like that." I rolled my eyes. I was beyond aggravated I wanted to get home even if it was in the basement. I wanted to get home, get dressed and leave for work.
"Whatever Jay can we just leave?"
"No you know what would happen if she shows up and we're not here, do you want that? No, I didn't think so. Sit yo ass down and wait!" I screamed.
"No, I'm not going to let them take over my life-"
"Don't start that bullshit Ki, you know we have no control over this." I rolled my eyes. "Shut up Jayden, you don't wanna do anything about it you know like shit we can do something about our situation."
"What am I gonna do Bubba!? I'm only 16, if I sneak you out the house where are we gonna stay? Huh?!" I yelled letting the built up tears roll down my cheeks. "We could go to a shelter or we could get new foster parents. We don't have to live like this Jay, I don't wanna live like this. Please do something Jay." He sobbed falling into my arms.
The two of us sat there crying for about 10 minutes before her car pulled up which caused us to quickly let go of each other and wipe our tears. I let him get up and run over to her car with the umbrella since it was raining and the umbrella was small, he couldn't afford to be sick. Following after him I sat in the passenger seat cause jerry was clearly not with her.
"Good evening Mama." We mumbled in unison. Instead of saying anything to us she rolled her eyes and made a u-turn to get out the school building area.
