Jayde

"Jayde take this and stop being difficult please." Aunt Ruby groaned in frustration. "Auntie if they catch us with these they're going to kill us for sure!"

It was going on closing time at the ShakeShack and while it's not usually busy, it was a Friday night and this is where all the football players and the fast ass little girls that chase after them, come to celebrate. To my surprise my Aunt Ruby was amongst the football players forcing their way through the door. It was a surprise to me because I didn't even know she knew where I worked. Our conversations never really lasted that long.

When she came, she immediately pulled me off to the side. I was taken aback and quite afraid of what would come next. Last time she showed up unexpectedly, it was to tell us Mama died. "Jayden listen to me, I'm not stupid. I know what goes on inside that house, and I'm working on getting you guys out! Very soon in fact but I need to be able to keep in contact with you guys." She explained.

I was hearing everything she was saying but I most definitely wasn't listening. "Auntie please I can't ta-"

"Jayden! Na' don't make me cut a scene in hea', take this hea' phone and text me when it's ok to talk. You're a smart girl and you'll know how to keep it discrete." She shoved the brand new iPhone X in my apron along with AirPods and a charger. I sighed holding back the tear that dared to drop. She hugged me tight and slipped a $50 bill in my back pocket, "get you something to eat, you look frail."

With that she left. Taking a deep breath I returned to doing my job. I was quite nauseous and light headed, but there was money to be made. I'm saving my checks so when I turn eighteen I can get a small apartment for me and Malaki, that way the court won't deny me primary guardianship.

"Took you long enough." One of the girls sitting with the football team said. I rolled my eyes and pulled out my notepad to take their orders. "Do you have anything without this many calories?" She sighed.

"This is not your first time here, you know what's on the menu. Is anyone else ready to order?"

Amir, one of the football players began to speak before he was cut off by the girl sitting on the side of him. I believe she was stepping in for her friend."Oh no can I speak to your manager? This kind of customer service is unacceptable." She snapped. Once again I rolled my eyes ignoring her. I didn't have the energy to argue with this hoe or her tired ass leave out.

"Man can y'all shut the fuck up? I'm hungry damn." One football player said.

"Nah real shit, if y'all gon' keep this shit up y'all could get anotha' table. Na', Ms. Lady I would like a steak house burger with fries and one of those cookies and cream mass shakes. For the win !" Another said, as they began celebrating and chanting their victory song.

After taking their order I quickly bought it to Diane where she prepared the meals. Meanwhile I worked on the massive shakes. My mind drifted off to the brand new phone that was in my pocket. I still didn't think it was a good idea. If Gina or Jerry found this on me I'd be gone for sure. And why would she get me such an expensive phone? Is she dealing again?

"Jayden! You're going to mess up the shake, it's done now!" Diane shouted startling me. "Sorry, sorry Diane I wasn't paying attention."

"It's fine Jayde, go serve these I'll deal with the shakes."

I took the platter of six plates and went to serve them. "One steak burger with fries, the hot wings and onion rings, the burger only, chicken and waffles for you, fries only , and last but not least the Mass Shack burger with no onions. Your shakes will be out in a moment, and table two your meals will be up in just a moment.  Anything else I can help with?"  I breathed.
