Mum pressed her foot on the gas just in time to dodge the falling pieces of debris that the Sandwich-Monster had punched into the air. It came after the car, stepping on a bench and crushing it under it's solid hard bread feet.

'You used the hard, almost-out-of-date bread then, dad?' Stacy observed from the back window.

Dad didn't answer; he was too busy changing the radio channel to find some epic car chase music. The monster knocked over a lamppost and kicked a car out of the way as it continued to run after the car.

'Why is it so angry at us?'  Elaine pondered as mum swerved to avoid crushing an elderly woman and her dog.

'Maybe it was because I whacked the butter in the microwave,' dad answered, 'or then the pepper I accidentally knocked over when I was looking for the jam.'

'You were looking for jam in the spice cupboard?' Stacy queried, although her question was drowned by the roar of the monster.

The monster caught up and grabbed the rear end of the car, lifting it to its eye level. The kids and dad screamed, but mum had a backup plan; she opened the trunk, and Tim's and Ted's frisbees, balls and baseball bats fell out, hitting the monster in the face. The car flew down, and as it did, the kids watched as the world seemed to move in slow-motion. Then the car hit the ground and mum continued driving. This gave the car a few seconds advantage before the monster regained its senses and jumped over a house to stay on track.

By this time, mum had reached the park. She was forced to slow down as protesters stood on the road, signs and megaphones screaming "Don't build a factory in our park!"  And then, a light bulb switched on above her head. She drove into the crowd which parted angrily to give way to the car. She rolled down her window.

'You guys hungry?' she asked.

'Heck yeah, we've been standing here since  5AM this morning!' exclaimed the protesters.

'Then go get it!' she said, pointing at the Sandwich-Monster running at the crowd at an alarming speed.

The Lindsay family had never seen a crowd move that fast, not even when the news anchor had reported that the world-famous teenage popstars, Robin and John, were performing live at the city theatre. The Sandwich-Monster was quickly melting in the heat of the sun, and the crowd devoured what was left of the Lindsay's failed picnic.
