Chapter Two

We were in a black SUV that came to pick us up after we landed in Philadelphia International Airport which was roughly one hundred miles from New York. I had learned the names of the other four men that I was going to share my training with, and two of them were twins surprisingly. The two twins were tall and squared, both with auburn hair and sharp brown eyes. One of them, either Daniel or Darren Marquez, seemed to talk a whole lot, while the other was all seriousness. It also seemed as if Johnathon was quite fond of the soldier who had me mistaken for a man. He was Cadet Scott Emerson, all six feet and three inches of him. Most girls would classify him as swoon-worthy, with his caramel hair and blue eyes; an All-American sort of boy, with the dimples and everything. Just the thought that he thought I was a boy made my ears burn.

“I called the ESR and reprieved the meeting to tomorrow. I waited a little longer than I planned to bring you guys together. Your commander told me to wait a few more days for a specific cadet. So, we are going to crash at a hotel blocks away from the compound. Then, tomorrow, the meeting is at seven. I rented three rooms, and you’ll meet up with a person who will take you to buy whatever you need, like clothes and things for personal hygiene. When we actually get to the ESR then you’ll all go on a real shopping spree. I’ll tell you more on that later,” Johnathon said as we pulled onto the highway.

The last of the five, Cadet Gray Lee who sat next to me, quietly yawned and stretched his long, skinny legs in front of him and lifted his cap over his eyes. “I’m going to take a nap if that’s alright,” he said.

"That’s fine,” Johnathon replied. “I might so too.” He sat up in the passenger seat, next to the silent driver. Within minutes, Johnathon was snoring and Gray had his head on my shoulder, his mouth hanging open. I felt so uncomfortable and awkward at that moment, and dared not to move.

A laugh came from the back where the three boys were talking. "It seems that you and Gray are getting a little to cozy together." I think one of the twins said it.

I turned my head around to see the twin that had a freckle over his upper lip smiling. It looked like a snicker, but I can't tell the difference anymore. Just in case it wasn't supposed to be a harmful tease, I smiled back and shrugged with the shoulder that didn't have Lee's head resting. "He's tired."

"You don't really talk much, do you?" Emerson said.

I shrugged again, refusing to actually talk to him. Even though I was mistaken for a boy often, it still hurt. I was still insulted.

"He doesn't either," teased the twin, pointing to his brother that sat staring out the window. He had a serious face that could be mistaken for anger. "Right, Darren?"

The twin with the freckle and joking nature was Daniel, and the other more serious twin was Darren. They were so different in personality that I was sure I could tell them apart by now. They just wear different expressions, too.

"Oh, shut up," glared Darren. He punched his brother lightly on the shoulder. "I live by the rule, 'If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all.' I have a dark mind, you don't want me to say all the things I think," he said menacingly. Daniel shivered dramatically.

"Whoa, Darren, your inner serial killer is showing," Daniel responded. "Whoa, man."

Emerson cracked an amused smile, but turned to me instead. I met his gaze for a second, then turned back to the front awkwardly. Thankfully, Lee moaned in his sleep and shifted his head to his opposite shoulder. He looked uncomfortable, with his double chin and lips dangling open, and I tried not to smile. He yawned, and moved again to a more inviting position, then moaned again.
