Chapter Four

"It's Cadet Price to you," I said shyly, looking down at my white shoes.

"Oh, my Gosh!" Daniel exclaimed, leaping from where he sat. I was startled by the sudden outburst. "Did Price here just try to make a joke?" he practically yelled.

"What are you doing here?" Johnathon asked, raising a thick eyebrow. He looked around. "How did you even get in?"

"Emerson here can pick a lock with only a piece of his own hair," Daniel laughed. "I underestimated you, kid." He thumped Emerson on the back.

"Sorry, we just wanted to make sure she gets comfortable in her apartment. You know, since everything that has been happening," Emerson announced, stuttering a little towards the end. By the way he pulled at the hem of his shirt and the steady tap of his left foot, you could tell he was equally as uncomfortable about the topic as I was.

"Why don't you let Eleanor rest?" Johnathon suggested. "She's had a couple of rough days."

Oh, please, Lord, let me rest without these obnoxious guys here. I thought.

"Nah, bro, we are going to party like this is our first time out of the army!" Daniel said, flapping his arms wildly from where he lay.

"I'm not much of a party person."

"Fine!" he teased. "What type of a person are you, then?"

"As an 'authority figure' for the soldiers, I am to emphasis the point where no alcoholic beverages, drugs, or such are not allowed in this building. You are now with the ESR and being part of our exceptional soldier recruitment you are not allowed to consume any alcohol, smoke, or consume illegal drugs in any way. We want your bodies to be at tip top shape," he said seriously.

"That sounded a little weird, don't you think? Well, we can't even have a little beer here or there, or, to keep it classy, a glass of wine?" Daniel whined.

"Only if you invite me," Johnathon replied, smiling.

"Shouldn't we worry about research or alterations rather than this idiocy?" I said, raising my voice a little.

"We'll let you settle down a little before we even begin talking to you about it. We're trying to keep everything nice and slow and relaxed," Johnathon replied. "But, you're right Eleanor. Guys, I don't think it would be correct to go out on your first day. Though, I don't doubt Daniel here is probably a party animal."

Daniel hunched up, resting on his forearms, and grinned. "I'm not going to correct you."

"Well, Price, your belongings are set and organized already in the dresser and your army suits are hanging inside your closet. We'll be going out, like I have told you before, to get more stuff," Johnathon said, pointing farther into the room.

"Shopping spree?" Daniel squealed teasingly. "OMG, I tots need new shoes." He turned to his side on the bed and began to snuggle into the huge white comforter.

"Daniel, shut up please," Darren said darkly.

"These blankets are so soft. Darren, feel, it's like a cloud made of silk," Daniel kept pushing.

Johnathon walked farther into the room, but I stayed put at the entrance. The room was all neutral colors with a large paint canvas hanging above the King sized bed and modern vases on counters. Farther into the room I could see an obscured small kitchen. I doubted there was a stove or oven by the size, rather only a microwave and mini fridge. There was a door across from the secluded miniature kitchen that was most likely the restroom. I was thankful for the glass doors that had thin curtains over them, letting in a soft gleam of white sunlight. It made the room with light colors seem twice as bright and comfortable.
