Chapter 28

Alex's POV

     The next day... at work...

       I get on the steps in the center of the hospital. Bailey is standing by the nurses station closest to the staircase, eyeing me like prey before coming over to me. "Karev, you get down from there. If I weren't here, you probably would have done something stupid." I cup her chin and get close to her face. "Actually Bailey, I was going to make a special announcement. Can you get everyone to gather her within the next few minutes?" She sighs but nods in agreement. "This better be worth interrupting work throughout the hospital."  I smile. "It is trust me." 

15 minutes later...

     I rise from sitting on the steps when I see all of the familiar faces of fellow friends, doctors, and nurses gather before me. Mer rushes to the front of the crowd and comes up next to me. She leans in to whisper to me. "Alex, what on earth are you doing?" I grin. "Just you wait and see." I grab a hold of her right hand, squeeze it, and begin addressing the sea of faces. 

      "As most of you probably know, Mer and I have been together for a few months now, but we've known each other. I know that I'll never be able replace Derek for you, nor do I ever intend to, may he rest in peace.  Though, I am madly in love with Meredith Grey and vice versa." I look over to her next to me blushing and smiling. "We wanted to announce our engagement to you all." Everyone cheers except for Jo and Steph. Steph gives me a nasty stare while Jo bursts into tears. The attention turns to Steph walking Jo out of sight. I wish I could say I felt bad, but the bitch deserves it. 

         "Mer and I have decided to have the wedding in three weeks time. You all are invited. That's all we wanted to say so you're free to go back to work." We get a few more congratulations from people before everyone attends to their work again. Mer pulls on my shoulder and drags me into an empty on call room. She sits down on the bed and pats the spot next to her for me. "Do you really think we can pull off planning in a wedding just three weeks?" I put my hand on her knee. "I know we can. Have picked a person to plan it?" She laughs. "I actually told Maggie she could. I hope that's okay with you. She's a wedding fanatic and this is a really big deal to her." I laugh too. "That's totally fine. I have no doubt that Maggie will do a kick ass job at planning it."

           Suddenly I catch myself yawning. "I think I'm going to take a nap. Do you want to join me?" I lie down and Mer throws herself on top of me giggling like a schoolgirl. It's a bit unsettling but mainly adorable. She gives me a powerful kiss before plopping down beside me. "Does that answer your question?" It takes a moment to recover from my daze. "It sure does Mer."
