As she walked into the room, I got this eeling of recognition. I felt like I had seen her before, like I honestly knew her.
As her eyes swept the room, I felt something pulling me forward, towards her. The crowd of people parted before me as I unconciously moved towards the queen. My mind screamed for me to stop but it was almost like I had a rope pulling me towards this strange woman.
As we both reached the dias that dominated the far wall, she turned to face me and I almost feinted as I realized how I knew her.
My mother, with her long, red hair and luminescent green eyes, looked straight at me and gave just the slightest smile.
"Hello, dear. And how are you on this glorious evening?"
"Mom!? But dad said y ou died. Why... How?" And with that, I burst into tears. I wanted to run. I wanted to just disappear, but something wasn't letting me. I felt like I was frozen to the spot.
Before i was old enough to remember ber being around, my mother disappeared. My dad had always told me that she had died, but would never tell me how or when. I grew up knowing her face, those blue eyes I had inherited, through the few photographs that we had of her. There weren't any with both of us together but I never questioned why that was until now.
What made her leave me? I grew up wanting nothing more than a mom. Someone who could teach me how to be a good woman without it being awkward like it always had been with my father.
As I continued to fight my incisible bonds and cry uncontrollably, I felt a strong paif of arms circle me.
"What did you do to her?" Jon demanded of my mother.
"I wrongerd her many years ago. It is something that was necessary but I will never be able to take back or make up for," came the ethreal response. "Please do not look down on me for it, for I had no choice. It was either have her disappear or risk my only childs life."
As the words escaped her perfectly shaped lips, a unanimous gasp of shock escaped the lips if the crowd, All except for Jon, that is.
"You should have found a way! Why did you just disappear?!"
"There was no way. Believe me when I say it broke my hear to leave her with that man so many years ago, but it was all I could do."
By this time, the shock had worn off and the4 whispers of the crowd had begun.
"Daughter? How? I never knew she had children. Why would she keep something so important from us? Is she really her child? I see no resemblence."
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't keep the whispers of doubt out of my mind.
"Stop!" I yelled, instantly silencing the crowd. "I deserve some answers and you are going to give them to me," I demanded while pointing and accusational finger at my mother.
"You're right. I am going to give you the answers you deservew but prepare yourself because you will not like the truth. It is hard for me to tell but I guarantee it will be harder for you to hear," she told me before turning to address the full congregation.
"My people. I know that you do not understand, but I could not tell you of my daughter before today for many reasons. The most prevelant one being the war that has just recently ended. Only a few days before she was to be born, Christiannas father was assassinated by the opposing forces. They did it in hops of destroyingthe famliy line and therefore his dynasty, but they did not know of my pregnancy.
"We had hidden it from all except for the most trusted of our staff here in this castle. We did not wish to, but it was the only way to ensure the continuation of our lives as we know them today. Without the continuation of this royal line, there would have been nonstop war for the crown and the kingdom that we know and love would have been torn apart. I wished to prtect not only my own child, but the children of my loyal followers. My kingdowns well-being depended on her safety and that is why I hid her a world away.
"Not long after the kings tragic death, someone betrayed me and word of my daughter got to the enemy. Within a few days, there was an attempt on her life, and that is the last time I saw her.
"Just as the assassins were entering the castle, I was sending her away to be raised by my most trusted, and beloved patrons. I sent them away to a place called Earth, where they would be safe until I could send someone to bring my Christy home."
As she gave this eloquent, well rehearsed speech, I just continued to cry on Jon's chest as he held me. I would have given anything to just disappear. The nect part of her little speech was directeed at me, but I paied little attention, as Jon was whizpering sweet little comforts in my ear.
"I'm so sorry. I hda no idea she was oging to do this. Everything will be ok. Just breathe, it's ok." And he continued like this throughout the queens speech. It wasn't until she spoke directly to me, asking me questions that I could get myself under control enough to look my mother in they eyes and hear what she had to say fro herself.
"My dearest daughter, I never ment to hurt you as I have. I see that your sorrow runs deep, and, as I watched form afar, I wished to do nothing more than just come to you and wipe all of your worries away. I known that you will never be able to fully understand and forgive me for what I have don't. I beg y ou to open y ourself to me and allow me to be the mother that you have longerd for, for so long."
"Why? " I demanded. "You didn't raise me. You left me in the hands of someone that knows nothing about children. You abandoned me. I don't care why, it hurts just as much." And with that, I gave a final, mighty pull at my bonds and broke free. Tearing myself from Jon's arms, I ran out of the grand ballroom and let my feet carry me away.
