what i would do to take away this fear
of being loved, allegiance to the pain
now i fucked up, and i'm missing you
maya sits on her vintage couch with a bowl of her favorite cereal and watches the night skyline of new york city. she always loved the city. she loved the way it shone so bright that it didn't let a single star appear in the night sky. she took her phone out of her pocket and switched onto the camera. just as she was about to take the photo, her cellphone received a notification from instagram. "follow request from lucasfriar94"
maya rolled her eyes realizing it was a request from her co-worker. she clicked on it and scrolled through his account, mildly lurking. she clicked on a picture where he was wearing a cowboy hat and seemed to be in a stable. the caption read "back home in texas a while ago". she smirked and commented, "well well, seems like we've got a huckleberry in our office." she accepted the follow request. almost instantly, he commented back, "seems like we've got a lurker in our office." she bites her lip and thought about messaging him, but decided not to.
she put down her phone and rested her eyes on her couch. she eventually fell asleep.
~
after sleeping in a little, she realized she had to go to the office. she quickly got up and started making her coffee. she got dressed and brushed in the meantime and took her coffee to-go.
when she got to the office, she sat at her desk in her cubicle. she decided that since her newsletter story was ready, she would turn it in early. she emailed it to riley. maya looked up from her computer to see lucas staring at her. he quickly looked away and continued to type something on his computer.
maya takes out her phone and gets on instagram. she direct messages him, "what ya looking at ranger rick?"
she puts her phone face up on her desk and waits for his reply, which didn't take to long to roll in.
lucasfriar94: "ranger rick?"
brokenhart: i've got plenty more where that came from.
maya sent the message and put her phone down again. she stood up from her cubicle and went into riley's office.
"hey riles." she smiles. "did you get my email with my newsletter?"
"hi peaches, yes i did." riley replies with a soft smile.
"so weird thing happen yesterday. lucas friar followed me on instagram," maya scrunches her eyesbrows, making a confused face.
"and why is that weird?" riley tilts her head in a questioningly manner.
"well, we've never really had a conversation before. we've only really greeted each other every once in a while," maya shrugs and bites her lip.
"well, you know boys. they get all winded up if a girl looks at them. he probably is attracted to you." riley sighs as she responds, "but remember the co-worker no dating policy, maya. don't want you to get too excited."
"woah, chill riles. it's not like i'm trying to date him. even though he is pretty cute," maya's voice trailed off, not believing what she had said.
riley raised her eyebrows at her friend, "mhm..."
"i-i gotta go." she says and walks out of the office. she grabs her cell phone and bag from her cubicle and exits the newsletter office.
