"Perfect!" I exclaimed. "Come on, let's go," I hobbled my way over to the door and tried pushing it open. It took a few tries but I did it. I walked around and was greeted by Harley.
"I thought Mistah J didn't want you walking around," she raised her eyebrow and examined me. "If I were you, I'd be listening to his orders."
I took a deep breath and smiled. "I'm really sorry, Harley," I started. "I know you think of me as a threat, but I can assure you, I'm not going to get in the way of your romantic relationship with him. The only people that are affecting that relationship are you and him. Maybe Batman a little but I'm positive that it's not me. And if you ever need advice on what to do, you can come to me. I will not hesitate to help you out. Are we cool?"
Harley hesitated before giving me a sympathetic look. "I guess," she half smiled at me. "But you better not get in the way. I will hurt you," she smirked.
"Yeah, I got that," I chuckled looking at my ankle.
"Well, well, well," Jack walked down the curved stairs and stared at us. "Jeff!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. Jeff scurried over to where Jack was.
"Yes, Sir?" he asked in a worried tone. Jack pulled out a gun and pointed it at Jeff's head.
"Jack!" I yelled.
"You had one simple job. When she rang the bell, you bring her dinner. That's all you had to do."
"That's all he did do!" I snapped.
"Go back to bed, Melanie. I know how you get around blood," he taunted. I slid over to Jeff and knocked the gun out of Jack's hand with my crutches. I grabbed it off of the ground and broke it.
"If you kill him, I leave. For good," Jack's mouth formed a snarl. "Don't do this, Jack. I'll go back to my room. I'll stay for as long as you want. Just as long as he stays alive and well," I wagered.
"You'd better get there as fast as you can," Jack growled and walked back upstairs. I made my way to my room and sat down on the bed. I got situated and rested my ankle. I had no idea if it was bruised, sprained, or broken. Ice never hurts and neither does elevation. I asked Jeff if he could get me an ice pack and some extra pillows and he gladly did so.
"Y'know, you were really awesome back there," Jeff started. "You saved my life. I could never be more grateful."
"It was nothing. I know how to get inside his head. Even after everything the news has said, what you told me, it sparked something inside of me that I just can't explain," I made eye contact with him. "Being here is already helping my amnesia. And I'm hoping there's more to come from you," I saw him blush and I did the same. Before I knew it, his lips smashed onto mine and we were in the middle of a passionate kiss. Our lips acted as magnets and couldn't stay away from each other, no matter how hard we tried to pull them apart. He finally pulled away and my face was burning. I was so shocked and honestly didn't know how to react to this. I had only known this guy for about fifteen minutes. Well, from which I can remember.
"I'm sorry," he stumbled to find the right words. "God, I'm such an idiot," he murmured. At a loss for words, I did the first thing that came to my mind. I pulled him closer and reignited the heat between us. When he made eye contact, a smile crept across my face and he shared the look. I was still speechless and so was Jeff. We stared into each other's eyes and just looked at each other. Jeff's green eyes sparkled in the natural lighting that shined through the large window my room.
"For crying out loud, say something already!" Harley said standing in the middle of the doorway. It seemed like she had been standing there for the whole thing.
"Please don't tell the boss about this," Jeff pleaded in fear to Harley.
"And if I do?" Harley taunted.
"I'll snap your neck, Harlequin," I smiled at her as she giggled.
"You don't scare me, Dollface," she just called me dollface. A flash appeared before me and before I knew it, I was in a trance.
"Why do you call her cute pet names, Puddin?" Harley asked Jack.
"It's not a pet name, Harley. It's simply something to distinguish her from other people," Jack explained. He lied. My mother used to call me that whenever I put on makeup as a little girl. It was basically her way of saying I was beautiful, no matter what I did with myself.
"Why do you call him 'Puddin'? I chuckled.
"Because it's a cute pet name! He's my puddin!" Harley tried defending herself, but it didn't work very well.
"Well I'm his Dollface," I shrugged. The only reason I allowed Jack to call me Dollface is because he rescued me from my father. He tried to rescue my mother but it was too late. She had died. I have no idea to this day why Jack saved me. I just assumed he did it out of impulse. We don't really talk about it...
I snapped out of the trance and clenched my hands into fists. "Never call me that," I growled.
"What're you gonna do about it, Dollface?" my rage intensified.
"Shut the fuck up, Harley," I snarled.
"Dollface, Dollface, Dollface!" She taunted.
I blinked a few times and grabbed the item closest to me. "You're not my mother!"
