Jen looked up at her kitchen clock. It was almost time to leave. Her eyes skimmed around the room. He was late. Again. Since he bought up the divorce he'd been acting distant with her.
She always knew they had to be careful about them. But she missed him.
The seconds stretched into minutes until finally she heard that familiar knock at the door. Before he had even finished knocking she threw the door open and pulled a stunned Colin inside. "What took you so long?" She pressed her lips upon his and breathed in his scent. Colin placed his arms around Jen's waist and returned the kiss. Then, slowly unraveled himself from her. "We shoud... Get to the party." He said with a grin plastered across his face.
In the car Colin turned to Jen. "We have to.." he paused. Jen looked over to him. "Keep our distance. I know." She sighed. Colin squeezed her hand. "It'll be over soon. Then we can tell everyone. I promise."
He promised. That was the only thing Jen was holding on to right now. All the sneaking around was driving her insane.
As soon as they reach Sean's they instantly parted ways. A flash of sadness came over Jen. Until she spotted her best friend, Rose. Whenever she saw her a smile was instantly formed. Rose spotted Jen too and rushed over to give her a hug. "JEN! I MISSED YOU." She squealed and she embraced her. From the corner of her eye she spotted Colin and Josh embracing one each other discretely. She smiled to herself and let go of Rose. "I missed you too. Where's the alcohol?" Rose grabbed her hand and pulled her into the kitchen saying "Right this way my lady." As she did.
The night became wild in an instant. Jen grabbed any drink she could get her hands on. She needed to wash away the pain of not being with Colin tonight. At moments she caught Colin staring at her. She knew what he was thinking but she shook her head at him. They couldn't. Not here. Not where they could get caught.
After a while Rose cornered Jen and dragged her into the toilet. "What's up with lover boy?" She asked curiously. "What? Oh. Colin." Jen looked down at her hands then back up at Rose. "Let's not talk about that please." She sighed. "Can we just go back to the party. I need a drink." Jen said. Rose gave her a look. "Drinking won't help. Talking will. Sit down please." Jen did as she was told. "Okay go." Jen looked into her best friends eyes, took a deep breath and began.
When Jen had finished tears began to brim in her eyes. She quickly lifted her hands up to wipe them away but before she got there Rose threw her arms around her. "Everything will be okay in the end. Once he gets the divorce you can be open about all of this. Just hang in there." Jen put her arms around Rose and squeezed her tight. "What would I do without you?" Jen laughed as she wiped away her tears. Rose smiled widely. "You would go insane." She joked. They both laughed and hugged again. "Okay, shall we go back now?" Jen nodded. "Let me just fix my face. Can't have them knowing I cried." Rose smiled softly and left Jen alone.
Before Jen left the toilet Colin stumbled in and threw himself down onto the toilet seat. "I love you Jen." he slurred. "Let's go upstairs and make some noise." He laughed at himself. Jen rolled her eyes at him. "Not here Colin. Not now." He stumbled up off the toilet and inched closer to Jen. "When." Jen pushed him away slightly. "Not tonight you are drunk." He pushed his bottom lip out. "Please." He begged. Jen shook her head and opened the door. "No means no Colin."
She left the toilet and from across the room she could see Rose so she made her way over to her. When she reached her she heard a drunk Colin call out her name. Jen froze. Rose threw her glass down and rushed over to Colin. "Upstairs. Now." She muttered. Jen stood frozen to the spot a while Rose half pushed, half dragged a drunk Colin up the stairs. When Jen snapped out of her daze she rushed up the stairs after them. Josh saw what Jen was doing and followed her as fast as he could.
