DISCLAIMER: I don't own the hobbit nor any of the lovely characters within it. However Good old Lizzy and Katie are my own.

"SHIT!" These words described brilliantly the situation that Elizabeth was in. Quarter of an hour after the shops closed she stood there glaring at the supermarket sign. Oh how she hated being too late, how she hated being told things at the last minute, how she hated that she was still single and very, very lonely. The least you could say was that she was quite upset at this moment in time. Her best friend, Katie, had called her and reported her recent heart break with a man she claimed to love that she had been dating for the grand span of 2 weeks, how there was no food in their small apartment and how she had just hit her period stating how much she ached to which Elizabeth grimaced while standing in the rain, no bus shelters in sight to take refuge.

The tall dark haired woman breathed out a long sigh and walked another mile along the streets of Peterborough to a large Sainsbury's that she hoped was open. Her car having been broken down for 2 weeks coincidently the time when Katie had met the apparent 'love of her life'. She had had to for those 2 very long weeks trek around the city on her feet and occasionally her bike when the walk would be too much or she needed to be somewhere fast. To top it all off she had forgotten to get this week's groceries leading to the dilemma of there being no existing food to eat in her and her best friend's apartment. She had literally just got off one of her many jobs only to be bombarded with voicemails and messages containing another one of Katie's heartbreaks.

After carrying 5 shopping bags in each hand and trudging through the thick rain for over half an hour with her dark brown wet hair plastered to her face, Elizabeth finally got to what she liked to call her "temporary home". In the grand scheme of things she saw herself in the future owning an actual house with an actual husband and actual children but of course in her youth she has lacked the ability to capture a decent gentlemen who could provide these needs.

After unlocking the door and slamming it behind her she dumped the bags on their small kitchen counter and closed her eyes. This allowed her to focus on where exactly the sniffles of her best friend were coming from. After finding her in fact behind the telly she dropped a pot of chocolate brownie Ben and Jerry's on Katie's lap and smiled her comforting smile while holding out a hand. Katie leaped into Elizabeth's arms.

"He dumped me Lizzy, he said he doesn't really love me and he wasn't looking for a serious relationship." Katie choked out between sobs.

"I did say he was a bastard now didn't I. Don't let this bother you you're stronger than this Katie. Come on why don't we watch some Harry potter, you'll get to see Ron in all his ginger haired glory." This seemed to perk the shorter woman up and after an hour of watching the Philosopher stone and munching on Pot noodles and Ben and jerry's she seemed to have completely forgotten about it, as was their routine when dealing with Katie's misfortunes in love.

After the film had finished and Katie reported her day to Elizabeth while also reminiscing about her 'perfect ideal world'.

"Oh Lizzy why can't we find a pair of Handsome young men that would love us for who we are?"

"Because quite frankly I don't think such men exist. They only reside in books, their fictional not real." Was Elizabeth's tiered reply, she was going over what toilet supplies that needed restocking. Katie frowned.

"But perfect men can't just be found in books I mean it just can't be true besides books are boring." She droned.

"They're are not. They can be inspirational and tell magnificent tales or even reflect what could have been. Take the Hobbit for example it is an absolutely brilliant book and the first film is going to be amazing when I get time to actually buy the DVD and watch it." A slight look of sadness crossed her face.

"Oh there you go again with you raving over that book. You won't be able to find real men in books Lizzy you've got to go hunting for your prey," she giggled, "I'm going to bed, todays been so long, and for the looks of you, you need some sleep. Beauty sleep is necessary Lizzy I don't care what you say." And with that Katie jumped up and stumbled to her room, falling over a misplaced coaster and face planting the floor. She got up of course but decided to stare at Lizzy while moon walking into her bedroom trying to play it off cool and closing the door.

The remaining young women sighed once again and stood walking leisurely to her bedroom. After getting changed and flopping onto her bed she rolled into the covers and drifted off to sleep wishing for some brave loving man to come into her life. Little did she know that Katie also wished the same thing for both of them and thus came about an adventure that would change their lives.
