Four years later

Ze's POV

I taped the last box shut and wiped away the sweat on my forehead. Finally, it was time for graduation. We spent four years working hard and now it's time to move on. The four of us were thinking about moving into an apartment together. We grew close since we met at the party four years ago. Plus, I think we all want to leave Iowa. Not that it isn't a nice place to live, but we need to get away. "Alright, all finished. I can't believe it's over!" GaLm said. "Four years go fast. They didn't bother to tell us that at orientation." "They never do. Alright, I'm meeting Smarty downstairs to get the moving truck. See you later." I waved as he walked out the door. I grabbed my suitcase and neatly packed my clothes. I heard a knock on the door and I ran over to greet my boyfriend standing outside the door. "Hey you." he said, tapping my shoulder. "Hey right back." I said, tapping his shoulder. "Do you need help? I'm finished upstairs." "Nope, I'm pretty much done here. I just need to finish packing my clothes." I pulled him into the room and he shut the door. He pulled me close to him and kissed my lips. I could feel the smile forming on his face. We pulled away a minute later. "Can you believe we've been doing this for four years?" Anthony asked. "And nobody found out." "We have to tell someone at some point." "And we will. After we move into the apartment." I didn't want to wait that long, but I could tell Anthony wasn't in a big hurry. We'd kept this a secret for four years and coming out seemed like the easiest thing in the world. The door opened and Smarty walked in, GaLm in tow. "The truck's here. Do we want to start moving boxes?" Smarty asked. I looked up at Anthony and he shrugged his shoulders. "Might as well. We just have to be ready by six." Smarty ran upstairs and Anthony sighed, running after him. I watched him run upstairs and out of my sight. "Dude, what was that?" I felt GaLm tap my shoulder. "Nothing. Promise." I packed my clothes and set the suitcase next to the door afterwards. We had all agreed last week would all move to New York after graduation. I suggested we make it into a road trip. They all agreed and we started planning from there. Anthony and I then agreed we'd come out afterwards. After a couple hours, GaLm and Smarty left somewhere, leaving just me and my soulmate sitting on the floor in front of my bed. "Do you think they're like us?" I asked. "What do you mean?" Anthony asked. "Do you think they like each other like we like each other? Or is it just a coincidence they hang out so much?" Anthony shrugged. "It's possible. They seemed to know each other before we all became friends. Or they're just really close friends and they like hanging out together." He wrapped an arm around my shoulders. I rested my head on his shoulder and he rested his head on my head. "I love you." I whispered. I saw a tear drop fall onto our intertwined hands. "That's all I've wanted to hear for years." He placed a hand under my chin and kissed my lips. I smiled and his lips matched mine. We separated to breath and we both laughed. "How pathetic are we?" he asked. "I don't think we have the right to have that opinion." We laughed again and rested our foreheads together. "Steven, can I ask you something. It might sound crazy, but I feel like it's the right time." "Yes Anthony?" "Would you give me the greatest honor of being my husband?" I was in shock. I smiled. "Are you asking me to marry you?" "To sum it up, yes. Will you marry me?" I shook my head. "You are too much Anthony." "So is that a yes?" I laughed. "Yes. I will marry you." He kissed me again, not as my boyfriend, but as my fiance. An alarm went off in the room. I looked around to see GaLm's phone lying on his small table, the screen awake. I turned it off. "We should probably go find them. We shouldn't be late." I said, grabbing my sweatshirt that I had thrown onto my bed. "Yeah. I have an idea where they might be." He took my hand and led me out of the dorm building. We ran across the campus where seniors were saying goodbye to each other and packing their tiny cars with their stuff. I was thankful that wasn't me. Our stuff was waiting to be brought to NYC later tonight. Anthony had promised to ride with me in my car while GaLm and Smarty would drive the truck. "Come on, Steven! Hurry up!" I ran to catch up with Anthony. "Where are we going?" "Smarty's secret spot. He goes there when he needs to calm down after a long day. Although why he told me where it is, I have no idea." "He doesn't live up to his name, that's for sure." We laughed and kept running. "No he really doesn't." We ran towards the river and under the bridge. "It should be down here. Quiet now." We snuck through the surprisingly clean area under the bridge. Anthony stopped me towards the end. He pointed the area around the corner. I nodded. I heard both Smarty's and GaLm's voices. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but I knew one might have been comforting the other. I'll admit that eavesdropping isn't one of my strong suits. I took Anthony's hand and led him over to where our friends were. "Hey guys. Can we join you?" I asked. They looked up at us and stood up quickly. "What are you guys doing here?" Smarty asked. "GaLm's alarm went off a couple minutes ago. We just came to find you." Smarty looked over at GaLm. "I forgot. Don't blame me." We all sighed and it became really quiet. "We still have a little bit until we have to be ready. Do you guys just want to talk?" I asked. They all agreed and we sat down on the ground. I looked over at Anthony, and he smiled. I could tell his face was asking me "Should we tell them now?" I nodded and he took my hand. "Guys, can we talk." He asked. "Sure, what's up?" Smarty asked. I spoke up first, knowing this would make Anthony nervous. He's been hiding for so long, he doesn't know how to come out without being hurt. I only came out to my mom, who didn't care and thought me being what I was completed me. She was my only support besides Anthony. I squeezed his hand and looked back at our friends. "For awhile, Anthony and have been dating." "Wait, what?" GaLm asked. "For how long?" Smarty asked. "Four years." Anthony answered. "You've hid this from us for four fucking years? How?" Smarty demanded. "Pretty easily. We'd hang out after you went to bed. We'd talk on Skype a lot." Anthony started. "And those times I said I was going to the library to study? I was really meeting him." I finished. I rested my head on my fiance's shoulder. "And earlier, while you were gone, I asked Steven to be my husband." "Whoa, whoa, whoa. You did all that in four years?" GaLm asked. Anthony and I looked at each other and shrugged. "Yeah pretty much." I replied. Their eyes widened and we all settled. Anthony's grip on my hand loosened. He looked down at me and smiled. "Then I guess we should come clean too." Smarty said. GaLm smiled and they took each other's hands. "We trump you guys when it comes to keeping a secret. We've been dating for ten years." Smarty explained. I punched Anthony's arm. "I told you!" He sighed and hit my shoulder. "You guys knew?" GaLm asked. "It wasn't that hard to figure. You guys spend so much time together I couldn't help but notice." They looked at each other and we all laughed. "How pathetic are we?" Smarty asked. "I don't think we have the right to that opinion." Anthony said, copying my words from before. I smiled and hugged my fiance. A bell rang out signalling five o'clock. We helped each other up and I tagged Smarty's shoulder. "Catch me if you can!" We ran across the school grounds back to our rooms to get ready for our future.
