Twinkletown

I suddenly fly through clouds and emerge soaking wet, spitting and gasping. My arms flail at my sides and I start screaming at the top of my lungs.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

"I DON'T KNOW!" I shriek. We continue screaming until I can almost see the fine detail of houses. As if by magic, I start slowing down, sort of like strings are hooked to my back. I shudder to a rough halt, just inches from the ground. My breath hitches in my throat, and I look at the sidewalk. It then comes out in a giant 'oof' as I finally fall the rest of the way to ground.

That was anticlimactic. "You're telling me. You know, let's figure that name out now. As long as we're resting anyways." I put my hands up to my chin and thought. "How do you like 'Peter'?"

I love it.

"Alright, Peter it is." I smile.

Then something happened that I never believed that would ever happen; my shadow moved without me. My eyes go wide and I start sputtering.

What's wrong? Are you hurt? And just like that I felt a cold hand on my arm. I jerk back and breath in and out slowly.

"Peter, where exactly are you?" My question comes out broken.

What do you mean? He pauses.

"I mean are you seeing my face?" He normally sees through my eyes, so he is- was part of me.

I am. He sounds surprised.

"So did you just touch me?" I sit up.

Yes. I've never heard him so incredulous. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

"Are you thinking that somehow, little by little, you're coming together to become human?"

Yes. He says breathlessly and my heart rate increases.

"Hey, are you alright?" A male voice calls out to me. I guess I looked pretty stupid, sitting in the middle of a sidewalk with my head in my hands. My head whips up when he speaks to me and I must have startled him, because he stepped back in alarm.

"Oh yes, I'm fine." I answer faintly.

"Are you sure? You don't look like you're from around here and we don't get strangers often." The mans mustache twitches. It's one of those pedophile mustaches too. It goes excellent with his comb-over hairstyle.

He's a pedophile! Peter whispers harshly in my ear. I roll my neck.

"I'm not sir, I just need help. Have you seen a cloaked man go through this town about a week ago?"

"Why, yes." The creeper licks his lips. "Come back to my house and I'll give you a map saying where he went, pretty girl."

"I'm not stupid, you'll just kidnap me and rape me like the other, oh, couple hundred other girls who came through here." Holy mother of god where did that come from?

The man looks shocked. "You- you think I'm a pedophile?"

"No, I think you're a unicorn in a horses body, in a human mask that magically transforms you into a man." I roll my eyes to prove my point.

The 'man' lets out a hoarse laugh. "Pretty close little girl," It reaches for a little flap on its neck I oddly didn't see earlier. "I'm a dwarf in a human costume." After it rips off the mask, revealing a short man with very large clothes on, his voice dramatically changed from a high male voice, to a higher male voice. "We wear these to protect our identities. The creepy man status usually scares of the normal ones."

I gape. "There's more of you?"

He giggles. "Humans never cease to entertain me. Yes, this is Twinkletown," He gestures dramatically to the town behind that I, again, didn't notice before. "Home of 1,582 dwarfs."

My eyes bulge out of my head, then I start hysterically laughing. Once I start, there's no way I can stop if it's that funny. And this was pretty funny to me.

The dwarf narrowed his eyes at me. "What's so funny, little girl?"

"I have no idea." I choke out. I hear a rumbling laugh too, must be Peter.

"Well come on, let's go into town and we'll ask if anyone's seen this cloaked man." He offers his arm when I was done, but that set me off and I start rolling around on the ground.

"Are you done now?" He asked after a few minutes.

"Yes, just let me get up." I said, still giggling. I grab a rock nearby to give me a little support; my leg felt too numb just to stand up on its own. I slide my left leg underneath my butt to get a boost. I heavily put weight on my right leg and realized I was speeding towards the ground. I land with my arm bent at an awkward angle and legs sprawled out behind me.

"Does the little girl need some help?" The dwarf laughs and I grit my teeth.

"Sorry if being me shot complicates your life."

He stops laughing. "How are you not crying in pain?"

"I took some kind of pain medication I found in this backpack." I roll my shoulders to bring attention to the bag. He glances at it and starts toward it. I jerk it back and grab his arm to prevent him from getting any closer.

"Don't you dare go through my stuff." I hiss through my teeth.

He backs off slowly, arms raised in the air. "Alright, okay I won't do that. Now I'm just going to help you up, you obviously need it." He puts his mask back on and transforms into the creeper. He reaches down for my arm after he reaches for his pocket and I roll over so I'm facing up. I feel some pressure on my back as I'm getting up but think nothing of it.

"Honey I'm home!" The dwarf shouts into the tiny house he went in. "Go call Dr. Hooverhousen please, we have an injured traveller!"

"Peter, you still alive in there?" I whisper, knowing he'll hear me.

Yeah. He sounds untrustworthy, Alex. Can we just get out of here as quick as we can?

"Yeah sure, I just need this bullet out of my body, you know that. This pain medication will wear off eventually." I start looking around, examining the outside of the house; I'm too tall to go in.

I know, just tell them to make it fast.

I feel a cold breeze on my leg and figure it's Peter. I shiver and try to put my hand on his, but all it touches is my leg. I sigh and nod.

"Dr. Hooverhousen will be out here shortly, he's seeing a patient right now." As if on cue, a piercing scream echoes out of the house.

My eyes go wide and I frantically shake my head. "Please tell me you idiots have more pain killers and medication like that."

The dwarf laughs. "Of course not, do you think we would have some advanced medication like that?" He continues laughing until I reach up and slap him. Hard.

He looks furious.

"Alright, now who's the girl who needs attention?" A loud, annoying voice says behind me. Footsteps echo to my right as he walks around to the front to see my face. I keep my head down, not wanting to see his face just yet.

"Come on pretty girl, look up at me!" This is going to be a long day. I groan and raise my head.

He's a cyclops.

Fabulous.
