"You have brain cancer."
Those words keep replaying in my head. It feels as though I've lost all the feeling in my body, I'm numb all over. I sit there and struggle to think.
"Now ma'am, we need you to tell us your name. We have to keep you in our records." Doc persuades me.
"No, no name." I say. My voice sounds like I haven't used it in years.
"Now you either have no name or you don't want to tell us your name."
I just shake my head, talking for me was a difficulty itself. I lean back on my pillow and stare at the ceiling. Doc and the others stare at me for a few more seconds then walk out and close the door, leaving me to my thoughts.
Which won't be good.
Cancer. Why me? Out of the things that could go wrong now, why cancer? Tears start leaking out of my closed eyelids. Slowly at first, then it all came crashing down. I start to think about how this might've happened; making me think about my childhood.
"Mommy, Daddy, come look!" I shout excitedly.
"Oh sweetheart that's beautiful!" My father coos. While he stands over me, watching me build my small block castle, my mother stays on the chair. Her eyes are sunken in her head, bloodshot and black. Her hair is something a rat or an owl would live in. The blue plaid sweatpants are stained and holy, matching great with her grey sweatshirt- also stained and holy. In her hand she holds an empty beer bottle; it's been empty for days. She's been staring at the TV for 4 days straight, never moving. She used to be quite a beautiful woman. Dad nor I know what exactly happened to make her act like this so suddenly.
"Mommy?" I say, a little quieter. Her head swivels towards me suddenly, reminding me of a snake.
I shrink back. "You wanna look, Monmy?"
My Dad kisses my head suddenly. "I'm going to the basement to get the camera, don't ruin this darling!"
I watch him leave the room, my eyes then travel to Mom. She's still glaring at me.
She gets up so quickly, my 6 year old head can't even register. "I don't want a look at your dumb blocks. Those blocks are for the retarted kids, just like you." She then grabs me by the front of my jumper I was wearing.
I felt a stinging sensation on my right cheek and I start crying.
"Shut up!" She roars and twirls and throws me full force at our wall. My head hits the wood and I gasp. She then takes me again and throws me across the room, crashing into the window and flying out onto the sidewalk. "That'll teach you to talk to me!" She shrieks at me.
-back to present-
I hear a knock at the door and hurriedly wipe my eyes.
"Come in." I croak.
The door opens and in steps the dwarf that I met when I first fell, following him is an older dwarf.
"You feeling any better?" He asks, clearly concerned. I nod my head weakly and he sighs. "Alright, now you know how you asked me if you saw a cloaked man? Well this guy," He gestures to the man behind him. "Also saw him."
"Hello, my name is Laund." The elder dwarf offers his hand to me. I shake it weakly.
"Oh, yes my name is Halloy. I never told you." Halloy chuckles.
"Yes, anyways what is it you would like to know about this man?" Laund looks at me.
"This man has unnamable business with my family, so I'd like to know what you know." I say.
