Alex's POV

I groan and put my head in my hands. "Stop thinking about him, distract yourself." I mutter angrily. Standing up, I hastily rub my arms to keep warm. I start looking around to find some firewood that Jeremy missed earlier to start a fire.

You'll be lucky if he comes back, you know that right? Peter says.

"I know, I'm just trying to process what exactly what just happened. He went from "Gosh you're so beautiful" to "I'm going to kill everyone who looks at me" in just 2 seconds, and that's really annoying." I growl.

I know. Let's just talk about something else. How's life? Peter asks slyly.

"Shut up," I say, irritated.

I look around at the trees, all I can see is the rough outline of them. Suddenly I wish I had a flashlight to see, because I ran right into a tree.

I start cussing and fall flat onto my back, straight onto a sharp branch sticking up. How lucky. I moan and roll onto my side, grabbing the stick and chucking it as far away from me as I can.

Yikes, we need to get you in a anger management class. Peter said.

"Just shut up already! You are the cause of all my problems and I don't want you in my life anymore!" I scream in frustration. "Why are you even here?!"

Believe me, hun, I didn't ask for you personally. He snorts.

I groan. "Can you please understand me for just a minute and not sass me?"

Sure thing, babe.

"I can practically hear you smirking." I pick myself up slowly and stick my arms out in front of me. "Ouch!" I mutter as a branch catches my skin.

Better your hand than your eye! Peter sings.

"To true." I mutter, thinking about my childhood best friend, Clara. When we were around 7 years old we had gone into my back woods and messed around. Do what not necessarily normal 7 year old girls would do, build a mini tree house and talk trash to the neighborhood boys. She had lived next to me in an almost rural neighborhood. Several house were around us but not right next to us, so we could easily walk to other kid's houses. One day, Clara and I were exploring and she had pushed a branch away then turned around to talk to me then turned back and the branch had whipped back and sliced her right eye in half. The branch had not gone all the way through her eye, but she had lost total sight in her eye. It had traumatized both of us, really. We came screaming bloody murder into our yards and our mom's freaked out. Some of Clara's blood had gotten on me when the branch caught her so it was like a horror scene when we ran in our houses.

Earth to Alex, you still in there? I hear someone calling for you. Peter said quietly.

"Huh?" I shouted out stupidly in confusion, like I always do.

"I said are you alright? You seem a little lost." The voice said. I couldn't see her very well, but she sounded nice.

"No, I'm not alright and I am lost." I end in a whisper.

"Oh hun, let's get you into warmth." Arms came around my shoulders and I flinched.

"No, he's still out here, I have to find him!" I shout hoarsely. "I can't leave him!"

"Him? Who's him?" She asks while simultaneously leading me in a different direction.

"My friend," I sob. "I can't leave him!"

"He'll find you soon enough, we have to get you into warmth." She repeats.

I start sobbing for absolutely no reason and let her lead me away into the darkness.
