I was almost seventeen when I first heard of Scott McCall's pack. I hadn't gone out looking for them, but when my Alpha heard of Scott, he knew he needed to take him down.

"May, can you imagine how much power this boy has? He's a true Alpha. A true Alpha! I've never even heard of one! If we can kill him, just think of the possibilities. We'll be the most feared pack in the country. Can you imagine?"

"Yes, Daniel. I can imagine," I said, bored. I was laying across the couch reading, and he was pacing loudly behind me.

"Why aren't you excited? You're going to be the one ripping his head off."

"Me?" I asked, looking up from my reading.

"Well, you'll be the one going to school with them."

"School? I don't go to school! Make someone else do it."

"You're the only one young enough, darling."

"Then I guess we're not killing Scott McCall's pack."

Daniel snarled and placed his claws on my neck, making me drop my book as I felt the sharp sting of blood traveling down to my shirt. "You'll do it, and you'll like it, or we'll be slashing your throat instead."

I looked him in the eyes, wishing I had the power to claw off his face. "Fine," I forced myself to say. "I'll go to school."

"Excellent," he smiled, swiping his claws away, leaving a thin scratch on my neck, which quickly healed.

Daniel was much like every other Alpha I had ever met. He grew from nothing, and the second he came into power, he began to abuse it. He didn't know the definition of kindness, yet the entire pack was loyal to him, some of them out of fear. I, however, was loyal to him because I had no one else. I hadn't realized this at the time, and mistook my allegiance as being present purely because I agreed with Daniel's decisions.

I don't remember my parents, and I certainly don't know what happened to them. All I know is that a teenaged Daniel opened his door one night to find me, at one month old, crying in a basket on his front porch. He only took me inside because he recognized me as a werewolf.

I was quickly accepted into a pack that became my family, taking a special liking to our then Alpha, Irene. She loved me like I was her own child until Daniel decided to kill her and steal her title.

Our pack became small after that. What once consisted of fifteen wolves quickly became five as Daniel learned that he would gain more power with every life he took.

I knew I would give my life for any of the other Betas, but at times, I still hated them. They were fiercely loyal to Daniel through all that he's done, and never once questioned him in the mornings when we would wake up to the smell of blood, and notice that a pack member was missing.

Fiona was quiet, and I hardly ever talked to her. I had no doubt that if she weren't so afraid of Daniel, she would run away. Every time he came into the room she acted like a dog that had been home alone all day and was too anxious to greet their owner.

Jack was arrogant, and all too ready to go for the kill. He was an ass most of the time, but I could tell that he cared about us. I learned early on that being a part of a pack gives you an often unwanted bond.

Isabelle and I were inseparable, despite the fact that she was ten years older than me. After Irene's death, she took care of me, and as we both grew older, we became each other's only friends. I only couldn't stand the fact that she was borderline obsessed with Daniel.

And then there was me. May was the name Daniel gave me when I was a baby, only because it was the month I appeared in, and the month he called my birth month. Anyway, I was unlovable, and unloving. Aside from the instinct to protect my pack, I didn't care much for people, especially not the ones I killed under Daniel's order. It wasn't until I met Liam that I began to feel like there was something else out there, like I was living my life all wrong.
