May's POV

I sat by myself at the booth, sipping the water the hostess had brought me. I watched the boy I was waiting for, stumbling awkwardly to my table. I was a little surprised that he wasn't nearly as ugly as I'd imagined.

"Hello, my name is Liam. Can I take your order?" He asked in an uncomfortable robotic voice, as if the words were being forced out of him.

"Oh, honey," I cooed, drumming my claws on the table. "Of course you can take my order."

His face didn't lose its unamused expression as he took notice of my claws. "You're her."

"Her?"

"You're the evil Beta that Scott warned me about."

He was doing his best to look brave, but I heard the speed of his heart rate, and noticed him tapping his pen against the ordering pad.

"Evil is a strong word, honey," I took another sip of water. "And my name is May."

He looked from side to side, as if waiting for someone to rescue him.

"I make you nervous?" I asked.

"No." His heart rate spiked.

"No need to be afraid, honey. I wouldn't dare hurt you."

"Why not?"

"Because you're cuter than I'd expected," I smirked.

He looked more angry than flattered. I crossed one leg over the other, with my feet on the booth.

"Whatever you're planning on doing in Beacon Hills," he said. "It's not going to work."

"Who said I was planning anything?" I stuck my nose into the air. "Maybe I'm just here to flirt with a cute boy."

"Maybe I'm just here to take your order."

"Ouch," I put my hand over my heart, pouting. "That hurt."

"Not as much as it's gonna hurt if you stay here."

"Oh, honey," I purred. "I don't think you're going to hurt me."

"Why not?" A confused look snuck across his face.

"Because you can't," I took another sip of water.

"Is that so?"

"It is so."

He narrowed his eyes. "Are you going to order or am I going to have to charge you for a glass of water?"

I opened the menu, letting my fingers glide across the pages. "Hmm, I'll take the veggie burger."

"Any sides?" He asked, writing on his pad.

"Scott McCall's head on a plate," I smiled widely, and he sighed.

"Cute."

"You too," I winked. "And I'll take fries."

"Got it," he mumbled, almost tripping as he turned around. I watched him walk back into the kitchen and pulled out my phone, dialling Daniel's number.

"May?" His voice came from the other side of the line.

"I'm at the diner. I just got through talking to Liam."

"Well, that's odd. I remember asking you to fight him, not make friends with him."

"I can't. There are too many people. What do I do?"

"May, darling, I'm letting you do this on your own because I believe you can make your own decisions. Did I make a mistake?"

"No," I answered firmly. "I'll handle it. Thanks."

Daniel hung up, and Liam approached my table with fries. He set them down on my table, trying to avoid eye contact.

"I'm supposed to fight you," I blurted out, catching his eyes for a second.

"Says who?" He asked, looking around again.

"Says me."

Liam hesitated before saying, "I'll go get you some ketchup."

As Liam went back into the kitchen, I felt someone slip into the booth behind me. I could tell by his scent that it was Scott.

"Your baby called you?" I asked, back to back with him.

"I'm not going to let you hurt anyone."

I turned around, and he cocked his head to look at me. "I'd stay out of my way, Scott. Or you'll be the first to go. I'm not here to hurt anyone. I'm here to kill your pack, and it's going to happen no matter what you do."

He was silent for a moment. "What happened to you to leave you this screwed up? You have powers. They're meant to help people, not kill them."

"My powers are my right, and my responsibility. I'll do with them as I choose."

"You said you were a Beta, not an Alpha," Scott said. "I bet none of this is your choice. You're too young to have chosen to be this way."

"It's my choice," I told him as Liam came back to the table, sliding my veggie burger down in front of me and looking to Scott.

"You're outnumbered," Scott said. "You should leave."

"Who ever said I didn't have back up?" I fibbed. "And don't you dare try to make me leave without finishing my food."

"Then finish it," Liam growled. I smiled at him.

"Thank you, honey. I will."

None of us spoke as I took my time to eat. Liam didn't go back into the kitchen. He hovered over me, as if expecting me to hurt the diner-goers. I wasn't focused on them, though. I was focused on the two boys next to me. I couldn't figure out why I didn't crave Liam's blood the way I did Scott's.

When I finally finished my meal, I stood up, placed a twenty dollar bill on the table, and left with what was halfway between a smirk and a smile.
