Chapter 1

"Well Mr Maxfield looks like you'll be working with Ms Worthington from now on"
You could see that after that sentence was said Ian was angry as hell but of course he didn't show it; after all when it came to work he tried his best not to show his emotions since he was very professional so to stop himself from doing anything stupid he just clenched his jaw as hard as he could and took a deep breath, looked directly into Akilah's eyes that had a glint of frustration and said "It'll be a pleasure working with you Ms Worthington"
    Well why don't we start from the beginning, shall we?
Ian Maxfield is the CEO of a big oil company in New York called "Maxfield&Co." Now he wanted to nail a deal with another company abroad but it just so happens that his rivals got the deal and are now going to set up their company in Japan.
The person who convinced the other company to set a deal with "Faraday Inc."(the rival company) is Akilah Worthington the smart beautiful confident dark haired woman who immediately captures the eye of anyone who meets her and gets to know her.

So now let's get back to the present time; where we are at an event that celebrates Faraday Inc's success and of course to say goodbye since they will be moving the company's location to Tokyo. Sadly Akilah had to start working in Maxfield&Co. because she did not want to leave Manhattan which held good and bad memories for her, all in all the city was very special to her and was of great importance and since she has a very impressive resume she of course had to work in one of the best oil companies and that my friends is the one and only Maxfield&Co.

Now the sad news is that not only will she be away from her friends and co-workers that she had gotten close to while working in Faraday Inc. but her new boss is a very cocky arrogant and rude human being and having devilishly handsome looks does not help.

Akilah stared back at Ian and said "likewise Mr Maxfield" then took a sharp turn and walked away while trying to contain her tears of frustration. She knew that her good luck wouldn't last forever but she tried to take deep calming breaths and looked at the bright side; she got to stay in New York!

Akilah went to the restroom to touch up her makeup and make sure that her eyes are not brimming with unshed tears, she also took a quick glance at her outfit from the full length mirror that was stuck onto the wall beside the sink. She was wearing a beautiful and elegant navy blue dress that just stopped at her knees, the bodice was ruched and had Sawrovski stones around the neckline, the skirt was pleated and to match the dress she wore navy 6 inch heels that had a pretty pattern on it.

While coming out of the restroom she bumps into what she thinks is a hard wall but when she looks up she sees a handsome man instead, she quickly apologizes to him and he just smiles and replies with "No I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was going" he then introduces himself as William and she does the same with a shy smile.

They start chatting and quickly Akilah knows deep down that they will be good friends but nothing more; she kept on comparing him to Ian's Greek God looking features. They both headed back to the hall where the event was taking place and William started ushering her to his table but you can imagine her surprise when she saw that Ian was standing at the table talking to a very beautiful blonde girl; "this is my sister Alexandra but we all call her Alex" said William with a smirk on his face while pointing to the girl " and this is my best friend Ian Maxfield , we all used to hang out together ever since we were kids" Ian had a shocked expression on his face but quickly masked it and said "hello Ms Worthington" Akilah gave a nod "you can call me Akilah" and then glanced at Alex and smiled "hello".

"So you're the famous Akilah Worthington, me and William have heard about you from Ian apparently you were the one who stole the deal from Maxfield&Co." she said with a wink and a proud look on her face. Akilah smiled and said "I wouldn't say stole I just directed the deal to our company" Alex and William laughed and Akilah chuckled while Ian had a scowl on his face.

By the end of the night Akilah went back to her apartment feeling happy and satisfied. She loved being with Alex and William even though she had just met them. They had such a positive vibe and their personality was the happy go lucky type although William would flirt with every single female he came across including her.

She sat down in front of her T.V and patted her cat Marshmallow. She loved it dearly because she always dreamt of having a cat ever since she was a little girl and when she moved into her apartment the first thing she did was going to her local pet store and buying a cat. Marshmallow had light brown eyes and had beautiful white fluffy fur hence the name. Soon after that Akilah had changed into her silk pyjamas and was sitting comfortably in bed with a book in her hand, she eventually fell asleep dreaming of how her new job was going to be like and how her new handsome sexy boss will treat her.

DING! DING! DING! Akilah woke up with a fright and then realised that it was already 7:00 am and her alarm was ringing, she had to get ready for her first day at Maxfield&Co.

She swiped the screen on her phone to stop the alarm and got out of bed with a yawn, she patted Marshmallow and headed over to her bathroom where she took a quick shower, brushed her teeth and washed her face. Then she padded over to her closet and picked out what she was going to wear; which was a tight gray pencil skirt that went just above her knees and paired it with a white blouse and some heels, she put on a simple teardrop diamond necklace which belonged to her mother and a silver watch. She then headed to the kitchen to feed Marshmallow who wouldn't stop meowing and then fed herself with a bowl of cereal then put makeup on, and of course last but not least she sprayed some of her favourite perfume and headed out the door.

Meanwhile at Maxfield&Co. in Ian's office someone knocked on the door and when Ian looked up he saw a cheerful William walking through, "what are you doing here?" Ian asked with a serious look on his face "just came by thought we could chat a little before you start your day, oh hey Akilah gave Alex her number yesterday she seemed like a really chill girl, I like her."

"Honestly I'm not a big fan she really annoys me" Ian replied with a grunt "everyone annoys you" William said while laughing. "No she's stupid and uses her looks to charm everyone and I think she's the kind of person who could easily be bullied into doing work."

" I'm sorry to disappoint but that's not me at all" Akilah said walking confidently into Ian's office "Akilah means bright and clever and that's exactly what I am, I feel flattered that you think I have good looks but I don't use them to convince anybody to sign a contract or do whatever I wish and as for you thinking that my personality is weak then you are severely mistaken I am a confident woman who won't let anyone step all over me and bully me into doing their work" and with that said she walked out of Ian's office with her chin up and her head high leaving Ian and William stunned.
