When the door opened, the first person to come in was a young man. He looked to be about 2 years older than me and was the same man from the window earlier as we arrived. Then it hit me. It was Prince Harry, the youngest of the two brothers. Then came in Prince William and his wife Kate, then the queen herself after them. I patiently stood there and waited for her to see me and address me.
She stood there for about a minute assessing me before sitting down and dismissing the staff. I guess what she was going to say to me was private. But I remembered Grace's training in which she told me let the queen and family sit first and wait for her to tell me that I could.
"You may be seated," the queen told me. I sat and crossed my ankles to the side. I could tell from my peripheral vision that Harry was staring at me and that William and Kate were as well. I was starting to get nervous until the queen spoke again.
"I know this is sudden for you. And I would not blame you if you chose not to believe anything that is going to be said in the room. Which is why I sent everyone out," she started to say. I remained quiet before speaking softly.
"Jim and Alex didn't want to tell me what it is about. They explained that you, Your Majesty, wanted to tell me," I said.
"And they were right. I wanted to be the one to tell you. Before I do, how much do you know about your family?"
I was shocked that she asked me. I didn't know what to say about that but the truth.
"Honestly, I don't know much about my family. What I do know is my mother was disowned by her parents when she married my father and they were forced to leave her home. I was raised in an orphanage when my parents died while I was a baby. What the matron of the orphanage told me, since she knew my mother, was that my family came from England and my parents were in the middle of a messy divorce when they died. I had to find out on my own how they died. She refused to tell me," I told them.
The queen sat there quietly as I spoke to her. Then she told me what I had wanted to her for the longest time.
"I have information about your family."
