Chapter Four

Honey, I’m Home

“Honey, I’m home,” called Jeremy as he carried a box full of his most personal belongings into the kitchen where I was trying to figure out the damn coffee pot.  Looking up at him, the smile on his face told me that he had no problem playing house with me, but I still couldn’t get the image of his naked body wrapped around mine. I felt the blush as I pushed a button and coffee shot out the bottom missing the cup completely and spraying out all over the counter. “Shit!” I cursed grabbing a towel from the counter.

A chuckle came from Jeremy. I rolled my eyes, my brain still not wrapped around our whole situation. Brez had been clear, the mission was simple. We were to stake out this neighborhood and figure out who was bad and which neighbors were the ones harvesting drugs. It seemed simple enough except for the fact that we were supposed to suddenly go out into public as a married couple and pretend that we were married.

My family chuckled at the idea of me playing married with a man that only Jessica had known I slept with. She winked at me when I, well we, had announced our sudden marriage. We needed to play it off to the rest of our family and friends, which was hard because we had only been seen together once.

The people who set up our mission made us take photos in different outfits, at different “stages” of our relationship and put them on the walls of our cozy home. It was going to be a bumpy ride, that’s for sure.

In the midst of my thoughts, I hadn’t realized Jeremy was standing there just staring at me. My cheeks felt on fire as he stared into my eyes.

“Do you need some help with that?” he asked looking down at the spilled coffee I had attempted to clean up. I wasn’t the same without my damn morning coffee and I needed to get on the ball now.

“No I’ve got it,” I said, waving him on. “I think you should go unpack so we can talk about the game plan,” I said restarting the coffee pot making sure that the cup was where it needed to be this time.

I heard him chuckle and say something under his breath as he went to the back of the house where the master bedroom was. I shuttered at the idea of having to crawl back into bed with him. The memories of my birthday washed over me.

Just as I sat down with the newspaper and my finally brewed, very hot coffee, he came walking into the kitchen again. This time dressed in sweat pants and a pull over sweatshirt. He looked sexy, but I would never tell him that. The way the pants fell over his ass—what the hell was I thinking?

“So I’m going for a run this morning, would you like to join or are you too scared you won’t be able to keep up,” he said winking at me. I looked down at my slacks and my blouse, then at my coffee and contemplated whether or not I really wanted to have to change again after showering again and hell I just now had my coffee which was too hot to drink. I smiled ready to decline his offer just as he started to talk. “I get if you’re scared rookie,” he teased.

“Rookie my ass! I’ll have you know I am in great shape,” I argued back. He stepped back with his hands in the air in surrender.

“Okay, well, I’ll be back,” he said walking towards the door.

“Wait!” I called after him. What the hell right?

I was changed with my iPod in hand and back to the entry way in record time. I wasn’t a rookie by no means I could run a mile in under six minutes. He eyed me as I opened the door.
