I didn't know I was staring until my textbooks fell out of my hands, causing a loud bang to echo through the school halls. I groan quietly, bending down to pick them up. Someone kneels down beside me.
"Let me guess, staring at pretty boy?" Letti, my best friend, asks quite cockily. I groan again and roll my eyes, standing up with my books hugged against my chest, "Please, not again."
I start to mouth exactly what she's about to say.
"You need to talk to him."
"No, I don't and you know exactly why," I stress but she just gives me her I've-heard-that-before face.
I sigh, "He's the school's bad boy, Letti. He's the biggest prankster this school has ever seen and also one of the most popular. And me? I'm so average I'm considered the school's second class."
"Oh, so being an amazing artist doesn't count at all?" She asks, crossing her arms defensively. She uses that same argument every time we have this discussion.
"No. it. does. not," I emphasize every word. She gives me the same face.
Than he starts to walk down the hallway, nearly walking by us, and I tense up as I watch him get closer. Letti cocks an eyebrow and follows my gaze and finds my biggest crush at the end of it, Max Thunderman.
"You're such a lost case, Hera," She says, but then she looks at me with a mischievous smirk.
My eyes widen, "Letti, if you do something-"
"Yo, Thunderman!"
I wince as if I'm in physical pain.
He turns his head towards us, I look down and brush my hair over my shoulder to hopefully block the blush that is inevitably on my face.
"What's up?" He asks, he's close. I know not only from his voice sounding closer but I can smell his cologne. Which smells amazing.
"Know her?" She asks, I wince again but take a deep breath and raise my head slightly, just enough to see his face. Wow, his eyes are more gorgeous up close.
"Yeah, of course I do, Hera Stein. Best artist in school," He says as if it was the most obvious thing. My eyes widen at his statement, it was most certainly not the most obvious thing.
"Ooh, so you've heard of her, well she's certainly heard of you," Letti says, I can almost hear the smirk in her voice.
My heart's beating out of my chest at this point, it gets worse when he looks at me. I try to act calm, except I'm gripping my books so hard at the effort that my knuckles are turning white.
"Well, most have," He says, giving me a slight smile. The butterflies swarm my stomach like an avalanche.
"Well," Letti starts, walking backwards away from us, "I'll see you at the after school art class in Ms. Jody's class."
"What?" She doesn't go to art class.
"Art class, after school, Ms. Jody's class," She repeats slowly as if trying to get someone to remember it. But I already know this.
"But you don't-"
"Okay, gotta get to class, see you guys," She says loudly before practically running away. I don't know if there will be a day when I actually understand that girl.
I continue to watch the spot where she disappeared, hoping she'll come back and explain why she just got me in this situation.
"Well, Hera." I almost forgot Max was standing next to me, "It was nice to finally meet you."
