Nicole's POV
I picked up my cellphone and called Ellie and Carly. I told them to meet me at the park, that it was serious.
15 minutes later I stood in the park, waiting. I saw Ellie and Carly come running through the park entrance, looking worried. They ran over to me.
"Nic, hey what's wrong you sounded terrible on the phone!" Carly greeted."Yeah, what's going on?" Ellie asked.
"That book I got from the old house last night, Night of the Living Dummy? Well when I went to bed last night, a rock fell off of my shelf and hit it and it busted the lock on the book. And overnight the book magically opened by itself and an evil ventriloquist dummy named Slappy crawled out of it. He's the monster in the book and when I woke up he was sitting on my bed. And he took the key back to the old house and started opening up all the other books saying: 'All of my brothers and sisters are coming out to play'. He and the other monsters escaped and they're going to destroy the town! And the only way to stop them is to suck them back into the books that they came from!" I explained.
The girls stared at me like I had a straight jacket on.
"Nicole, you really went all out trying to prank us like this." Carly accused.
"No! It's no joke! I'm being serious, Slappy has the rest of the books and is probably unleashing the other monsters as we speak! We have to go!" I yelled.
"Pretty thought out joke girl, but we don't believe you." Ellie said.
Before I could beg them to believe me anymore, something entered the park. It was.....a floating mask? The girls turned in the direction of my mortified face and they both gasped.
The mask floated around, as if it were looking for something. Suddenly it began to charge towards a middle-aged woman walking her dog. The woman screamed as it seemed to attack her face, and force itself upon it.
I dug through my bookbag and found a book labeled: The Haunted Mask. That HAD to be it! I ran towards the lady, whose face was now covered with the hideous mask. It hissed at me as I held up the book. Forcing the woman to lurch forward at me, the mask reached for the book, but not before I opened it.
Blue light shot from inside it, and the mask began getting sucked inside of it, off of the lady's face. As it was being returned to the book, the mask turned to a liquid black color. Back to just being ink! When it was gone I closed the book and replaced the lock onto it. Sealed up tight.
The woman yelled when she came back to reality and picked up her dog while running away. Not that I blamed her. I didn't even notice that Carly and Ellie had come running up behind me.
"How did you do that?" Carly questioned.
"I told you, the only way to get rid of the monsters is to suck them back into their rightful books. That was the haunted mask. But there's a lot more still out there." I explained."Well I know one thing. You're not doing this alone!" Ellie declared.
"So you'll help me?" I asked.
"You bet we are! What are best friends for?" Carly added.
"Alright, then let's do this!!" I shouted before running towards the park entrance.
The girls and I ran into the main part of town. It was destroyed. Cars were in accidents everywhere, buildings were falling apart, and people were in a panic, but I didn't see any monsters. People mainly seemed to be fleeing from the sporting goods store across the street, so I made a beeline for that first.
Inside the store everything was quiet. Taking a precaution I grabbed a baseball bat, I had no clue what was going to be in here.....
We passed a few different sport sections. Baseball, football, bowling, hockey. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We made our way past the golf section and there were some cute little gnomes on the fake green to use for practice putting. Wait.....gnomes?
Turnin around back towards the gnomes, I saw that they were all already assembling. Their cute little bushy eyebrows all pointed down in evil glares. They started running towards us and I unzipped my bookbag, frantically looking for their book. One jumped onto my boot and I shattered it with the baseball bat. Carly and Ellie grabbed golf clubs and began fighting them off.
"Keep them distracted, I need to find their book!" I called to my friends.
I didn't expect gnomes to know english, but they fully understood the word 'book' and began ignoring my friends and heading straight for me. I fended them off with my bat for a little while before turning and running. One gnome flung itself onto my back and began pulling my hair. I screamed and tried yanking it off. No help. Then I swung my hair forward and the gnome shot forward and shattered on the ground.
Then I came across the book. 'Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes'. Perfect!
"Guys, let them come to me!" I said to my friends.
Now the gnomes all came charging at me all at once. Just in time for me to open the book. The same blue smoke appeared and the gnomes came to a grinding halt. They began trying to run away but the force was too strong. One by one they flew back into the pages, turning back to ink, until they were all gone. I shut the book and locked it.
"That wasn't what I was expecting......" Ellie admitted.
"Where to now?" Carly asked.
"Wherever people are fleeing from I guess." I replied.
On the way out of the sporting goods store I grabbed a tennis ball.
"What's that for?" Ellie asked.
"I have an idea for when we find the werewolf of fever swamp..." I answered, putting the ball into the side part of my bag.
"Werewolf?" Carly asked, almost hopefully.
"This aint no stupid Twilight werewolf Carls. This bitch is real." I responded.
In fact:
All of these monsters were a little too real....
