Chappie 2

'New arrival'

>Romeo's POV<

"Ugh get your tail of me!"

I wake up with a start as I hear a high-pitched squeak ring across my den. Jamie my younger brother is shaking his head vigorously as my fluffy tail swipes over his nose. I roll my eyes as he does fake gagging noises and bring it across my paws. Amara is already squeezing her way out of the the rocks that screen the den, her mate Asriel uncurls himself from his sleeping position and follows her drowsily.
Jamie jumps over me and scampers over to the entrance of the den, on the way he accidentally stumbles over a brown scrap of fur draped across the floor.
"Ugh watch it Jamie!" Dusty growls as Jamie staggers to his paws. And trots to the entrance more carefully.
"Sorry Dusty" he apologises as he squeezes easily through the rocks.
I watch as Dusty rolls his eyes and pulls himself stiffly to his paws, shaking scraps of leaves and moss from his light brown fur. With an angry flick of his ears, he cuffs his muzzle with his pad, getting a bug of it and thrusts himself out of the den.

I stretch my jaws into a yawn and sit up gruffly and give myself a quick grooming. The lighthearted pup, Jamie also known as my very annoying little brother just turned old enough to sleep in the den with the older wolves. He's been stirring up some trouble and Dusty will be the one to admit it first, especially with his short temper and lack of love for youngsters. I drive my tongue over my grey pelt in rapid, soothing strokes. Giving a last lick to my fur, I slide in between the rocks and pad over to the centre of the clearing , shivering slightly in the cold air despite my big grey coat of fur.
The pale sun shines down weakly through the bare branches up above. They rattle as a gust of wind sweeps across camp but fortunately the limbs of the trees protects us from the wind.
The air smells crisp and frost still covers the grass and bushes with white. I walk past the lively action in the territory and go over to a big boulder where my Snow my father, and Alpha of the pack is seated outside his own private den in a slightly smaller cavern next to it. His shiny white fur matches the winter vibe and his dark green eyes gleam proudly as they swipe across his pack. Before I go to confront my father I feel a tip of a tail brush my shoulder, I turn my head around and see my brother looking at me.
"Hi! I just had breakfast!" He squeaks as he points to the prey pile at the centre of the clearing with his tail.
I lick his ear playfully and he springs onto my back but I dodge before he can even skim me and he tumbles over on the sleety grass.
"No fair! He whines as I stretch out luxuriously.

An excited squeal comes from the nursery at the edge of the clearing as Feather pelts out of it and skids to a halt next to Jamie in a scramble of light brown fur.
"Hey Jamie wanna play!" She squeaks and circles around him excitedly with quick steps from her fluffy paws.
"Sure!" He replies and jumps to his feet. The two rush of into the forest, pelts brushing as they run side by side.
"Wait Feather come back! I need to groom you" Fern, a slightly darker wolf, hurries after her pup with her long tail trailing after her. I watch in amusement as the two pups look over their shoulders and quickly bound of before Fern can reach them.
My gaze drifts over to the entrance of the camp that has a tunnel underneath the big burden of rocks that protect the territory. My muscles in my shoulders tense. It looks like the morning patrol has just returned.
Red, a ginger pelted wolf emerges from the tunnel along with Shrew, a dusky brown wolf and Klara a dark grey one.

I suppress a sigh as I catch Red's amber eyes and he pads towards me.
"Good morning sleepy head" he smirks and touches noses with me, I back of awkwardly and shuffle my paws.
"I have to go talk to my father" I murmur and turn away from him, I feel the sound of paws catching up with me.
"So do I, to report the border patrol" he points out. I flatten my ears in irritation and back away slowly, his gaze follows me.
"Actually I don't" I lie, his troubled gaze pierces my fur.
"Are you avoiding me?" He asks with a hurt expression on his face. I open my mouth for a swift excuse but nothing comes out.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asks in concern as he comes closer to me, I twitch my tail uneasily as his breath skims my face.
"I'm tired" I can't bear to admit the real reason why I'm uncomfortable around him. Without letting him have time to respond I bound over swiftly to the boulder, I rear my hind legs and Spring up. I manage to cling onto the edge with my fore legs and with my hind ones I scrape them vigorously on the rock, leaving scratch marks on the rough surface. I finally find my grip and heave myself on top.
I lay on my side, panting, my sides heaving as I try to regain my energy from nearly slipping of a high rock.
I manage to haul myself up and make my way beside the Alpha.
