- NAMJOON

The skies were dark when my groupmates and I decided to sneak into the mortuary to do our project that night. The funny thing was that the project was due to the next morning and thus, we only had around twelve hours. I felt a pinch of regret for not doing it earlier but seeing how the rest of my groupmates seemed to be unbothered, I knew it was impossible to have finished the project earlier.

"I can't believe we're sneaking out," Seokjin whispered.

"Is this like your first time or something?" Yoongi asked sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

"Obviously- I'm a good kid, okay," Seokjin scoffed.

Just behind us were the other four, Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook, all giggling here and there in their own conversation.

"Shh- people might hear us," I shushed them.

They immediately kept quiet. We had just left our dorm rooms and were now on our way to the mortuary on the forth floor, opposite the hostel, where we would start on our project. We were assigned to present the autopsy of a dead human body hence, the reason why we were heading there to the mortuary.

I whipped out my pass ID and unlocked the door before all seven of us entered. The room brightened up as Hoseok went over to the switch to turn the lights on. I closed the door behind me before gathering with the rest in the middle of the room. We looked around the spacious room to see white walls and a long stretch of metallic 'cabinets' on another wall.

In those 'cabinets', called chambers however, were dead bodies in which one of them would be used for our project. Jimin searched through his bag before taking out a folder.

"Okay... so it says here that we need to find for umm... Kwon Daejung, chamber number 13," Jimin read out from the papers in the folder.

The rest of us turned around before scanning the long stretch of chambers and found the chamber number 13. We all headed to the chamber and stood in front of it.

"So, who wants to open it?" Seokjin asked anxiously as he looked to the six of us.

"Me, me!" Jungkook exclaimed excitedly, pushing all of us aside to get to the front of the chamber.

We all stood back as he pulled the handle of the chamber door before opening it widely. Vapour started escaping from the chamber due to the temperature difference of the chamber and the room.

Jungkook pulled the body, which was inside a body bag on a long metal tray, out of the chamber. We all surrounded the body bag and stared at it, out hands began shaking.

"Err- anyone wants to unzip it?" Taehyung asked, feeling a little anxious.

"I'll do it," Yoongi volunteered, unzipping the body bag.

A white cloth could be seen covering the bottom half of the dead body as Yoongi unzipped the bag. As I was scanning its face and neck, I felt a little uneasy seeing a red mark on the neck of the deceased.

"He strangled himself," Jimin said, realising that I was examining the red mark.

"That's umm... saddening," I responded as I looked away.

"Alright, let's start. Bring the trolley here," Seokjin pointed to a trolley which was at the opposite wall.

Taehyung went over and pushed the trolley to us. We then transferred the body onto the trolley and pushed it to centre of the room.

Afterwards, we brought over the equipment required and set them up. A the same time, Jungkook issued us scrubs, the attire we had to wear for any sort operation.

While everyone was preparing the equipment and table, I headed to the backroom of the mortuary to get some scalpels and scissors. I was searching through the cabinets when the lights in the room started flickering out of a sudden. Instinctively, I looked up to the LED lights above me, my eyebrows knotted into a frown. The lights stopped flickering however, they were glowing brighter than before.

Hmm...

I did not really care and continued on searching for the tools I needed for the project. However, for the second time, the lights started flickering again. I rolled my eyes in annoyance, ignoring the blinking lights as I continued searching through the cabinets. That was when the lights shut off all of a sudden. I instantly froze.

"Hey! Who switched the lights off?!" I yelled, scanning around aimlessly in the pitch dark room.

There was no response. I was blinded with darkness and hastily turned around to find for the light switch. I felt a nearby wall and used it as a guide to bring me to the light switch. Right when I found it, I quickly turned the lights on. Soon after, I stormed out of the room before going to my friends, frowning at six of them who were preparing the equipment for the operation.

"So who's the joker who switched off the lights?" I asked sarcastically to them.

"Uh- what are you talking about?" Hoseok looked confused.

"Ha-ha-ha, I know one of you did it so own up," I demanded.

"Huh?" They said in unison.

I rolled my eyes again, crossing my arms against my chest.

"Yah- forget it," I walked away, entering the backroom again.

As soon as I found the scalpels and scissors, I quickly left that room. I then headed back into the main room and placed the tools on a small, mobile table beside the dead body.

"Okay, so what do we need to do?" I asked as I stood in front of the dead body.

Jimin immediately flipped through the papers in his folder.

"We have to operate on the heart, check some blood vessels and examine how Daejung died," Jimin responded.

❝Alright, let's do this.❞
