You had been stranded for five days.

Sure, five days didn't seem like much, but when you're stranded on a small island in the middle of the ocean with strange monsters you had to use for food, five days was a considerably long time.

All it was supposed to be was a research mission. Find the sacred island to Fairy Tail, study the wildlife, and leave.

You couldn't say you were necessarily mad at the crew for leaving you. After all, you DID trespass on the property of that troublesome guild, so something was bound to happen.

As you got up from your makeshift campsite, you decided to climb into a fairly tall tree in hopes of finding a ship you could hitch a ride on.

Come on...anyone there?

You sighed, disappointed in only seeing the blue water. Again.

I guess I should just try to use my time wisely here and continue studying and hunting.

You packed the necessities in your cramped backpack and began hiking towards the large, mysterious tree in the middle.

Journal: Day 8

After being on this island for five days, I've had my suspicions about another humanoid presence here. I've been feeling watched for three days now, and I'm almost positive that it has been following me. I'm not sure why, but I am setting up a trap to hopefully catch it.

Great. Now I've got to survive AND deal with this thing.

You put your arms behind you head and leaned back onto a tree. It was significantly more hot today, which caused you to run out of energy faster. As you started to fall asleep, you forced yourself to wake up and remain aware of your surroundings. Who knows what that thing would do if it caught you...

Deciding it was about time to set up a trap, you brushed off dirt lingering on your body and got to work.

[..........]

Finally. It's done...

Assuming that whatever was following you was a sentient being, they would eventually try to contact you. And if you laid down a random note as bait to contact them, they would take it.

Again, that's how all of this was supposed to go.

As you took shelter in wait for the humanoid, you could hear the rustling of a couple leaves. You smirked, knowing that it was near.

Come on...get closer. Go for the note...

Suddenly, you were hurtled out of the tree, and landed on your stomach. On top of the note of course.

Great.

The trap was activated, and you were soon tangled up in your own net.

I couldn't have just fallen from excitement. Something else did this to me...

Before you were able to collect all of your thoughts, a man appeared out of the dense forest. This hair was the color of shadows, and he wore a white sash over his black outfit.

Do I...recognize him?

"I see you've noticed my presence. I'd praise you for your intellect, but I'm afraid that any further contact with me would do you no good."

You were surprised upon hearing his words. So he's come to say hello to me only to say goodbye?

"Leave this island. It's not safe."

"Yea I would if I could!" You called back as you continued to struggle in the net. "I don't have any way to get back where I belong."

The look on his face was solemn. As you inspected him closely, you saw that his cheeks were wet with tears from earlier. You immediately felt sympathetic. Someone in pain shouldn't be alone on this desolate island...

"Maybe if you help me, I can help you."

He was quiet for a moment, but then spoke up and scoffed.

"I don't need help. But you need to get away from me." The dark figure turned his back on you and started disappearing into the woods again.

Suddenly, a thought came to your mind. I do know this man. I've heard of him. I've seen pictures of him in one of the old history books I found with my crew a couple months back...

Suddenly, the name snapped into your mind. "Please! Zeref!" You called out in desperation.

That's right. That was the Black Wizard, the deadliest mage to have ever lived. The one responsible for countless deaths. A walking plague that had lived for over 400 years.

Yet you decided that you wanted to help him.

He stood stunned in silence. The large, looming figure walked over to the net where you hung with glowing red eyes.

"What did you just call me?"

His voice was calm, but it was still able strike fear into the hearts of men, and yours. You decided not to provoke him, so you used a gentler voice and didn't mention his name.

"I can help you. I'm a skilled scientist who deals with magic in organisms. Let me help you. All you have to do is get me out this trap." Your soothing voice seemed to calm down the once enraged mage. His eyes proceeded to become normal again. Somehow, your words seemed to have hypnotized him, as Zeref slowly removed you from the trap.

His arms carried you towards the mysterious tree in the center as night began to settle in. No words or even eye-contact were shared between the two of you. You had put your trust in Zeref to take you to a safe place, and that's exactly what he did.

All of a sudden, you forgot all about your wanting to go home, wanting to head back to civilization. Right now, all that mattered was helping this lonely figure become free of his unending suffering. And you were going to find a way.

Hope you all enjoyed!
