"Wake up everybody!" Someone started charging around the house, clanging what seemed like a metal saucepan lid and a wooden spoon. I didn't want to go to school, I just wanted to continue snuggling on this warm bed.
I was immediately enveloped in peaceful sleep. No one to ruin it for me. I turned to the side and placed my hand under my head. It was a habit.
"Beep, beep, beep," an annoying voice continuously echoed into my ear. It's breath found its way and tickled my ear, causing me to squirm uncomfortably. As I decided to continue sleeping, the voice got louder and louder until it was unbearable. I had had enough.
With my foggy consciousness, I detected that the presence was above me. Me being me, well, I punched up.
"Ouch!" A startled voice exclaimed. This caused my eyes to shoo open and my body to sit up in terror. My heart was thumping. A flash of pain whizzed through my hand, and my groggy eyes set upon it. A purplish tinge was forming on my right hand. Great.
"Oli, hey," Em warily gestured to me. I looked at her but her eyes were trained on something else. I turned around to see Aaron still standing there. With a purplish bruise on his chin.
"Oh my god, Aaron!" I exclaimed in surprise. Why did I ask him to wake me up? Oh gosh. I'd get so grumpy when someone would try to wake me, I'd even resort to violence. And now this. "What happened?"
"What do you think?" He snapped, feeling irritated already. My eyes widened slightly. Yes, now I am aware that it was a stupid question. "I was only going to tell you that we had school."
"I'm sorry," I started blabbing. "I honestly didn't mean to. I'm really sorry."
"It's okay, just wake up," Aaron left the room. I am such an idiot! Why would I do that?
"Come on Em," I sighed in defeat. Today was just not my day. I hit Aaron twice on Saturday, and now I have him a bruise. "We might as well get up."
We had to rush. But we still made it in time. Em was at the doorway, about to leave. Her school started before mine. "Hey," she stopped me, "I just realised something."
"What?" I asked through a mouth full of granola.
"You an Aaron have matching bruises," Em said casually. I nearly choked, so I decided to drink the glass of water nearby. Then I started to choke on the water.
After my coughing fit had settled down, I stared at Em. She winked before heading off to Dorothy's house.
Dorothy was also a friend of my parents. She knew that I couldn't handle everything alone, so she said that I could have any favour I wanted.
At first, I was a little shy. I thought I was taking advantage. But then, I realised that I needed help. Ever since then, Dorothy has always dropped Em to school.
"Hey," Aaron asked me unsurely. He startled me out of my reverie. I turned around at him and a pang of guilt hit me.
"Listen, I'm really sorry," I said again. I couldn't help it. I mean, he was famous, he had a lot more power than I was aware of.
Aaron raised his hand as if to say that there was no need to apologise. "You don't need to say sorry. Just remind me to never wake you up again."
"But I'm -"
"Do you have anything to cover this up with?" Aaron asked me. I started thinking then. "Like make up?"
"No sorry," I said. "I don't wear make up. But I do have something."
I quickly walked into Em's and my room and I took out something from my wardrobe. It was a scarf that grandma had knitted before she went God-knows-where. Sure it was a bit...but would he mind?
"No," Aaron said firmly. He eyes the cotton scarf warily. It had colourful Pom-Poms and colourful string.
"You don't have anything else," I reminded him, causing him to glare at me. Woah, what happened to him? Well, I guess that this is all my fault, but he shouldn't hate me for it. Oh, who am I kidding?
"Just leave it," he said, his back turned to me. "I'll figure it out."
"Okay, then I'm leaving," I announced. "You do know how to get -"
"I do," he cut me off. I simply shrugged, grabbed my bag and went out the door. It wasn't that big of a deal, I mean, it was only high school. With a dozen cliques. And a dozen judging eyes. And a million fans of Aaron.
Oh god, this was going to be more complicated than ever. I decided not to focus on it too much, because then I would get into trouble for not paying attention in class.
Honestly, I disliked people who didn't like coming to school. They were usually ones who had a proper family and enough money to reach their aspirations.
I went through the school gates and I was in for a surprise. Aaron Anderson fans were lined up. They started singing when I entered because...I don't know.
"It's not even Aaron," a girl screeched, pointing her perfectly manicured finger my way. "It's just some creep. Move! Aaron's coming soon."
"Uh," I jumped, feeling startled. The only time I did move was when they all sang "move!" in chorus. I walked away taking my time.
I was walking and then a bunch of screams caused me to stop. Aaron walked in wearing my Grandma's scarf. I'm surprised he didn't get bodyguards. Talking about coincidences, two burly men wearing black suits came in.
The cheering stopped. Well, what did they expect?
"Hey," Aaron shouted to no one in particular. I looked at the crowd in front of me. But his eyes were locked on mine. "Yes you, Olivia Brown."
The way he enunciated my first and second name in front of everyone infuriated me. I turned around and ignored everyone's questioning gaze. I started to walk away. But Aaron had to run up to me didn't he? And I stopped because I have a low endurance, don't I?
I turned around, spinning on my wheel. I came face to face with Aaron. And two burly men. I hissed out a "what are you doing?"
And this is what I got.
"It's called payback, sweetie."
