Hesper, Mal, Evie, and Lonnie stood in the stands with the rest of the Auradon Prep student body. The announcer of the game's voice blared through the speakers.
"This is a nail biter folks. There's forty seven seconds left on the clock, we're all tied up. The Sherwood Falcons '2', Fighting Knights '2'. What a game between Auradon's fiercest rivals!"
Down on the field, Chad was preparing to go back out into the field. He grabbed his water bottle, tilted his head back and waterfalled the cool, refreshing liquid back into his mouth. "Go get 'em, Chad!" said Jay to his teammate.Chad looked over at Jay as he put his sports bottle back down on the bench. He seemed a bit surprised from the villain's words of encouragement, but nodded in response nonetheless. "Thanks, man," he replied before charging out into the field to join the rest of the team.
Coach Jenkins turned to Jay and held up the tourney paddle. "You're up."
Jay was silent for a few seconds. One may have though that he was getting last minute jitters in the heat of his first game, which just so happened to be the biggest of the season. But this wasn't the case. Inside his head, he was pondering something. Something pretty risky, but he had faith that it would work. Carlos reached out and patted his friend's shoulder to try and encourage him. "Coach," he said at last, standing on his feet as if that would help increase the point he was trying to make. "How about my buddy here?" He slung his left arm around Carlos's shoulder and hoisted him to stand next to him.
Carlos visibly paled at the sound of actually having to go up against the rivals who were nearly twice his size. Why couldn't he just sit on the side of the bench and look He tried feverishly to scramble out of Jay's grip. "Oh, no!"
Coach Jenkins shook his head, glancing at Carlos. He'd seen how he played in practice, and his abilities weren't quite up to par with what the team needed right now. "Not so sure about that."
"Coach, he's been practicing," insisted Jay, pulling Carlos back up.
"Jay," said Carlos, trying to get him to stop.
"And you said yourself that a team is made up of a bunch of parts," Jay went on, ignoring the pleads from Carlos to leave him where he was on the bench.
"Jay, I'm not that good," Carlos continued to protest.
Jay simply disregarded him. "Well, he's kinda like me brain." Playfully, he rubbed his fist against Carlos's scalp, earning him a swat from the smaller boy.
Coach Jenkins seemed to consider Jay's words, finding them eerily similar to what he'd told the boy himself not too long ago. Finally, he nodded, giving in to Jay's wishes. If he were to say, what kind of a role model would he be setting? "Amir!" Coach Jenkins shouted the name of a boy out on the field, who retreated from the the huddle the team was currently having all the way back to the sidelines. He tossed an extra tourney stick to Carlos who was barely able to clutch his clammy hands around it. "You heard him, get out there!"
"Don't worry bro," Jay said with a wide smile at his small victory. He patted Carlos on the back. "I got your back."
"How about my front?" Jay rolled his eyes and pulled his helmet over his face, pushing Carlos out in front of him as they jogged out to the huddle.
"He's bringing that hothead, Jay, in from the Isle of the Lost. And that little guy, Carlos, who can barely hold a shield," The announcer narrated as the boys came jogging out to join the team huddle.Nearly all the girls in the Auradon stands cheered when they heard that their favorite player, number eight, was going to join the team for the final few plays. Hesper didn't know where the announcer was at the moment, but if she could see him, she wouldn't have hesitated to send her harshest glare. Nobody was allowed to insult her friends, except for her. The Auradon team broke from their huddle, moving to their slated positions. "Right from their huddles, this is gonna be a big moment here," said the announcer, watching as both teams were ready to begin. "And the tip off is ready...here we go!"****
The team broke from their huddle and took their appointed positions. The ball was normally being passed from Jay to Ben, with Aziz and even Carlos doing occasional blocking.
They went in for a goal, but the Falcon's goal keeper blocked it. Now with 23 seconds left, the team had time for one more play.
Jay caught the ball, and ran down the field as far as he could, before passing it to Ben, who set it into the net, scoring the winning goal.
The entire Auradon student body cheered, well aside from Hesper and Mal, who were holding their hands over their ears.
"Here they come folks," the announcer said into the microphone. "The winners of the—"
He never finished because Ben had taken the microphone from the man. "Excuse me? Excuse me, can I have your attention please?"
Everybody became silent, looking at the soon-to-be-king with curiosity. Ben stepped up onto the disc shooter post. "There's something I'd like to say!" He hesitated for a moment, looking at his peers. "Give me a M!" He put both his hands up over his head in an arched manner.
"M!" The students put their hands like his.
"Give me an A!" Ben brought both is hands sharply to the side, and spread his legs.
"A!" The students repeated his actions.
"Give me a L!" He put his arms out at a ninety degree angle.
"L!" Everybody did the same.
"What does that spell?!"
"Mal!?" Everyone shouted confused.
"I can't hear you!"
"Mal!" The students yelled again, more confident this time.
"I love you Mal, did I mention that?"
The girls turned to gush at Mal, giant smiles on their faces. Hesper smirked at Mal slyly.
"Give me a beat!" Ben shouted.
Over in the marching band section Doug shouted, "Ono, dos, tres, cuatro!"
"What was in that cookie?" Mal asked, mainly to Evie and Hesper. Evie clasped her hands together and simply continued gushing over Ben's serenade to Mal.
Hesper shook her head, but smiled in amusement at the state Ben was in. She spotted Aziz on the field dancing and cheering with the rest of the Team mates and that smile grew a bit as she watched him in his element.(I'm sorry. I'm way too lazy to right all the lyrics, but refer to the video above if you wish :) )
Ben stopped in front of Mal, panting hard from all the dancing. Mal gazed up at him, holding his jersey close to her chest. He leaned in to kiss her, but Mal quickly put the jersey in between them. He swung his arm around her, pulling her close.
"I love you, Mal. Did I mention that?" He said, still speaking into the mike.
Audrey strutted up into the bleachers and stripped the microphone from Ben's hands. She put her arm around, Chad. "Chad's my boyfriend now. And I'm going to the coronation with him. So I don't need your pity date." She leaned, and kissed Chad full on the lips. Evie quickly looked away, and tapped her foot trying to keep herself calm. Hesper put a hand on her shoulder, and gave her a comforting smile.
Ben grabbed the microphone back quickly, "Mal, will you go to the coronation with me?"
Mal smiled, taking the mike from him, "Yes!"
"She said 'Yes!'!" he cheered, excitedly. Jay walked up into the stands, and brought Ben back down, where the rest of the team was waiting.
Evie watched sadly as Chad and Audrey walked away from the field together. Mal looked over to see both of them contently watching the couple.
"I feel really sorry for Audrey," Mal began.
"You do?" Evie asked.
Hesper nodded in agreement. "Yeah. I feel that if she were talented like you and knew how to sew and knew beauty tips that she wouldn't need a prince to make her feel better about herself."
Evie smiled genuinely at her friends. "I guess I am kind of talented."
Mal laughed, "You are definitely gifted."
"Thanks girls."
Hesper watched as Aziz helped to hoist up Jay, who was holding the Tourney trophy, with the rest of team. She bit her lip. She hated having attention drawn to her, and only hoped Aziz wouldn't take such a public approach.
Mal smirked at her, "Don't worry Hesp. Your turn's coming soon."
Hesper glared at her and muttered, "I hate you."
