I remember the night Alyssa died, except that I didn't know that she was going to die that night.

It was the last time I saw her, well alive and breathing that is.Our last conversation was a cryptic one that went like this.

"So Nara, how are you feeling?" Alyssa asked me with that twinkle in her blue eyes as she turned around from looking through the teal coloured curtains of my bed room window.

She was dressed in black skinny jeans and a white Hollister hoodie and her hair pulled into a loose ponytail. I looked up at her with my quizzical eyes. Afterall I was sick because of the prank she and the others pulled on me.

"It has been a few days and I think I am better, atleast good enough for tomorrow." I answered honestly. I don't really think the intent was to hurt me. We were all just really close,so occasionally we'd pull pranks on each other. But this is the first time one of us actually ended up sick.

"What's tomorrow?" Alyssa asked curiously like she had no clue what I was talking about.

She could not be serious. Tomorrow was the first day of our last year being secondary school students.Believe me I was excited that it was my last year of being a prisoner. Only Mela would probably miss those hallowed halls.

"Lyss, I know how much of a vacaholic you are, but school starts tomorrow." I joked.

"Oh right...yeah. Um, I'm not going." came a blunt reply.

Did I just hear her correctly? Who misses the first day? I was here sick and I am still going.

"Afraid of a little rain Alyssa?" I asked with a little smirk at the end. "Seriously, though, why aren't you going?"

She looked at her watch like she just realized the time was slipping away and began making it to the door.

"Actually, Nara I have to go home now. I know the others have not visited you since the 'little' incident, but I brought this card for you. I know how much you like blue, so I thought it would be suitable. Nothing heals like a personal visit from a bestie." She said sincerely while obviously ignoring my previous question.

I took the baby blue 'Get Well' card from her hands and gave a small smile of gratitude as I rested it on my headboard shelf.

Alyssa opened my mahogany bedroom door to leave, but before she could exit I sat up quickly in my bed to ask her one last question. Hopefully, I'd get a real answer this time.

"Wait, Lyssa. Are you not going tomorrow because of what happened last year? Tomorrow is the 10th and I know it might bring back some memories, but we have each other and you do not have to let the guilt eat you up." I said in one breath, while trying to search her eyes for an honest answer.

No matter what we were always there for each other.

Alyssa moved away from the door and then walked over to the edge of my bed and sat down.

"Listen Nara, I could care less about what happened last year and so should you. The past is in the past and you, nor me - not even the dead will make us feel bad about what happened. Tell you what. I have something to do tonight and if it works out in my favour maybe you guys will see me at school tomorrow. Yeah?"

She spoke so confidently that you would not have recognized the hint of fear in her voice if you didn't know her.She was quite a hard person to decipher.

"Oh..um..okay. I hope whatever it is that you get through with it cause then school would be boring without you."

With one last pat on my quilt covered leg she exclaimed, "Oh yes I know! Anyways I have to go."

"Bye Lyssa."

"Bye Nara and please do read the card," she said averting her eyes to the unopened card, "I am really sorry it lead to that."

The last thing I did was smile at her as she closed the door softly on her way out. Then I sighed.

I was actually really tired, although I spent the last couple days basically resting up. Alyssa had just shown up out of the blue and I'm genuinely surprised her parents let her come over so late, with the rain making an unwanted appearance as well. Belmont was considered safe, but you could never be too careful.

Normally I would look outside to make sure the girls made it out safely, but this one time I was on the sick, weak side. Plus the street lights were on no matter how late it was.

Turning over in my bed I took one last look at the pastel coloured card on the headboard shelf. I would read that tomorrow morning was my last thought, before my lamp was turned off and my eyes closed.

A/N: So this is my first time creating a story on Wattpad. I hope all of those who read this prologue are intrigued enough to keep on reading while I post more chapters in the future. The story is set in Barbados, since that is where I am from. There will be alternating chapters and you will see how each of the girls cope with being walking targets,so to speak. A pic of Alyssa is displayed above. I invite you to vote, share and comment.
