Coven's POV
I was always an early riser, but something about the first day of school just made me wish I could be swallowed by my bed and taken to another dimension where waking up for school was not an option at 7 in the morning.
I was so not ready for this. Especially when the rain was falling making me want to stay in bed even longer.
"Hey Coven! Wake up you idiot! Gran gran's making us breakfast and she wants you at the table in half an hour," yelled my sister Lana pulling the comfortable sheet away from my body.
Knowing that my gran's wrath was nothing I wanted to face so early in the day and that Lana voice was just plain annoying I decided to get up. Pulling the sheet off myself and I swung my body around to sit at the edge of the bed my feet touching the soft mat. I gave a loud, tiring yarn.
"Great now you're awake. I was actually quite willing to throw this water all over you."
"Omg Lana you would not dare do something like that!"
Lana rolled her eyes at my exclamation putting down the pitcher of cold water.
"Ofcourse I would. It would save you a shower sis. Just showing my love. Plus those pajamas are not even that cute." She smiled sweetly, but fake nonetheless and left my room.
If we did not share DNA I would have seriously gotten rid of her already, but knowing our parents they would probably hire someone to look into the disappearance. That certainly would not end well for me.
In the next thirty minutes I had already showered and put on my school uniform. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time just to fix my yellow tie across the white shirt covering my torso.
I think I rocked my uniform well enough. That's what my friends always said anyways. It's a shame this will be my last year wearing it.
Hair pulled into a low bun with a big, loose braid across the front I smiled in approval. Grabbing my school bag from my vanity chair, and closing the bedroom door I headed down the stairs for breakfast. I could smell the cooking coming all the way down the carpeted stairs.
As I reached the vine covered arch to enter the kitchen my gran exits the room and bumps directly into me.
"Oh sorry gran. I did not see you coming there." I apologized quickly.
"Morning love....um have you heard from any of your friends this morning?" she asked almost frantically.
To be honest if I slept through my alarm being 'Good Times' that also meant I missed any other notifications on my phone.
"No, why?" I asked with concern lacing my voice.
My gran was a sweet, plump septuagenarian with her dark skin almost flawless and black hair streaked with grey just passed the shoulders. When my friends came over she would usually do fishcakes for all of us; they were delicious.
"Coven just come and eat you breakfast. You'll be fine."
Fine about what? I wondered to myself. What was going on that my gran was basically hoping I woke up to texts from the girls.
As my gran twirled around and returned to the kitchen I followed suit. Before I could sit at the marble covered island in the centre of the spacious kitchen to eat my scrambled eggs and bakes the volume on the flat screen was amplified.
The local CBC news was on with a breaking story.
"A Belmont Secondary School student has discovered the body of 17 year old Alyssa Vaughn of the same institution in the Lemon Arbour Pond early this morning while on a morning jog in the area," the sophisticated reporter in her black suit recited, "The police and coroner have arrived on the scene along with the parents of the deceased. All of the authorities are doing their best at this time. Police have asked that anyone who may have heard or witnessed anything suspicious to please step forward as any information could be valid in helping to find out what could have lead to such a gruesome murder here in Belmont."
The last thing I saw before the TV was switched off was a photo of Alyssa smiling. It was one of the Instagram photos she posted when we had gone to the beach during the Summer. I remember taking that photo. She was so full of life and cheerful then.
What did I just see?
"Omigosh...Co-ven..I am so sorry." My sister began as she came to wrap me in a warm embrace followed by my gran.
"It's okay love. Coven you hear me?" my gran asked with tears forming in her eyes.
I could not even speak. I just felt a hole form in my stomach and my heart felt like it would fail me anytime. This could not be real. I could not even form tears.
"Ly-ssa..Lys-sas gone! Oh my gosh she's gone!" were the first and final words I exclaimed before the heated tears finally began to fall.
