Chapter 3

Alex POV

Just as the rock flies toward me, the world starts slowing down around me. I felt myself catch the rock and I felt other small rocks beginning to form a circle around  me.

I always walk without shoes so I felt all the moving things around me.

I sense  Connor, I feel an ant hill a few meters away, and I felt the shaking of the ground. I could feel Connor taking several steps away me.

No...

I am not going to lose another friend like this.

I use all my willpower to make my uncontrollable self to lower down all the rocks and once I got my vision back, I felt very dizzy and I collapse.

Connor POV

Alex was in the Avatar State again. She got too frightened of the boulder I tossed.

Man, why do I always get so overly excited?!

Once she finished, she ended up falling to the ground. I run toward her and cradle her head. I send my special signal for our friends.

A rock thrown into the air that explodes once it hits 80 feet.

In a matter of seconds, Mitch and Mary Kate arrive next to us. "What happened?!?!" asks Mitch. He's my best bud. He has a huge crush on Alex. Ever since the 7th grade, he couldn't stop talking about her. I can understand why he's so concerned.

"I taught her how to earthbend so we started playing catch with rocks. I got excited and tossed a huge boulder at her. She got really frightened and made it into the Avatar State again. It drained all of her power. I am so sorry." I feel like crying. I still have a small crush on Alex but I promised Mitch I would steer clear of her. I made this promise in the 8th grade, and I haven't broken it yet.

An unfamiliar person appeared behind me. It was Jerome. "I think I can help." He says kneeling over Alex.
