I woke up when I heard a loud clang. I didn't know where I was. It was dark. That's all I knew. There was a small dim light that barely made a difference though.

Whatever I was in was almost like a cage. An elevator maybe?

Where was I?

Who was I?

I could remember things like cafes, movie theaters, phones, and things like that, but i couldn't remember my name, age, or even my family.

Just the thought of not remembering them put an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach. Whoever they where, how many there where, I'm sure I loved them and they loved me.

The elevator cage shuddered to a stop, interrupting my thoughts. It clanged and lurched once more causing my stomach to drop to the floor. A door above my head opened and sunlight poured over me. I lifted my hand to to shield my eyes from the sudden light. Someone opened the top of the cage and hopped inside. He held out his hand.

"Day one green-" His word turned into a mumble as he stared at me.

"What?" I asked sharply.

"You're - you're a-a girl." He stumbled over his words, clearly in awe.

I nodded my head. "No duh, Captain Obvious." I took his hand and pulled myself up. "Now, where am I? Who am I? And who are you?" I questioned.

"I'm Gally" He introduced himself. "You're in a place called The Glade. I have no idea -nor does anyone else, who you might be, but don't worry," he said, obviously catching on that I was getting nervous. "You're name will come back to you in a few days." He gestured to the others behind him. "We all have. Its the only thing that we get to keep here."

"Why am I here?" I asked.

"Well, I can't exactly tell you all the details, but Alby can." He pointed to a tall, black kid who looked to be about my age.

"The box came up late today, eh shuckface?" He called to Gally. I frowned at the strange, new, weird word.

"Well I'll be klunked." Alby said, walking up to me.

"Excuse me?" I snipped right back.

"Well you're a girl, aren't you?"

"Why does everyone seemed so surprised by that?" I asked to no one in general. "Now can someone PLEASE tell me why I'm here?" I asked once again.

"Of course I can." Alby answered. "Follow me."

I followed him while he kept on talking. "All of us have been through what you're going through now. But the box came up late today, so I'm going to have to give you a real quick tour
 before the doors close."

"The doors?" I asked, wanting to know more.

"All in good time, Greenie." He replied. I shut my mouth and decided to listen.

Alby showed me around, pointing out the important things. The gardens, the homestead, and the places where they held meetings and gatherings. He informed me that we would have a gathering later so i could meet everyone. He also told me that once, every month someone sent up supplies and a new Greenie in the elevator.

"And that's me this month?" I asked.

"That's right," he smiled, "The first girl EVER to come to the Glade."
