Gray wandered through the gardens, the sun shining, the birds he had never known existed singing happily. A lot had happened in the past year since the coming and going of Rowan. Gray had assumed the position of principal at his school "Bram's Academy of Fine Arts." He had found plenty of teachers for all of the positions from the prison at the police station which was now run by real people, not robots. Ms. Sloane had taken quite a liking to gardening and tended the grounds every day. The only garden she did not manage was Gray's in which he had planted a Rowan tree surrounded by pink bleeding hearts and wild violets. He had still not gotten over Rowan's death and also the fact that her body had disappeared the same night she had died. He and Dr. Simon had looked everywhere for it and had also noticed that all of her belongings were missing. They had been questioning whether or not she had somehow transported back to Earth. Hopefully they would find their definite answer today when Dr. Simon finally tried to open Portal-Z.
Dr. Simon explained his theory to Gray on the way to the field. "The tree in the field attracts lightning because it is the tallest thing in the field. The tree is most likely where the portal is hidden from us so nobody can pass through. If metal rods are connected to the tree in a certain manner and if I can manage to pump enough electricity to the base of the portal, it should open."
Gray stood facing the tree, his foot tapping from anticipation. Dr. Simon flipped the switch to pump the electricity and a blinding light flashed, as if Heaven itself was opening. The test was a success, the portal was open! Gray smiled brightly and ran towards the portal, for in it stood the figure of a girl with flaming red hair and a neon yellow sweatshirt...
