"You don't look so intimidating."
Somi snorted before she could stop herself. There went her plan of pretending she didn't hear him.
Him.. him. Who was this guy, anyway?
Somi opened her eyes and glanced in the direction the boy's voice had come from. Seated at the desk directly on her left was a boy she only vaguely knew as the 'class clown'. Somi never bothered learning any of her classmates names, but this particular boy was so loud and distracting in class that she could identify him for that so there was really no way to not know him.
What was his name, though.. Kim.. Kim something. Not that that narrowed it down much.
Kim Whatever was studying her face intently; a little too intently. Somi ignored the blush creeping up her neck and tried glaring at the boy, trying to intimidate him to get him to leave her alone. She thought she was succeeding until he started chuckling, which startled the girl.
"Like I said, you're not so intimidating, Jeon Somi. You couldn't scare a fly," the boy grinned, his eyes not leaving hers.
"Do you want something?" Somi mumbled, already uncomfortable at how long this interaction had gone on. The boy was, or at least pretended to be unaware of her clear discomfort as he rested his chin on his fist, pretending to be deep in thought. "Hmm.. I want a big house... a big car..." Somi sighed and reached for the headphones that were lying atop her desk. "Hey hey hey, just hear me out!" The boy pleaded, his puppy dog eyes activated and in full effect. Somi was usually not one to be swayed by aegyo, but for some reason she gave the boy a second chance, internally scolding herself for being so weak today.
"My patience is wearing thin, Boy From My Class." Somi muttered. The boy held a hand to his heart, looking offended. "'Boy from my class'?" He exclaimed. "Don't you know my name?" "No, and I don't care to know." Somi shot back immediately. She didn't care for making friends or small talk, both of which seemed to be happening right now and she was not okay with it.
The boy, unaffected by her sharp words, simply grinned widely at her. "I'm Kim Taehyung. Kid genius, born visual.. but I don't like to brag." He joked, offering his hand. Somi briefly glanced at Taehyung's hand disinterestedly before looking away and closing her eyes again, hoping this kid would get the message and leave her alone.
She was not so lucky, as Taehyung almost immediately began poking her shoulder once her eyes had closed. "Hey! Hey! Hey!" He called, each 'hey' going in time with his pokes in her shoulder. Somi tolerated it for a whole minute before she gave up. "What do you want." She groaned, keeping her eyes shut. The poking abruptly stopped.
"Well, Jeon Somi, you and I have a problem." Somi opened her eyes and frowned slightly, trying to remember if she had any beef with this kid. But how could she? She hadn't even known his name up until now. "What problem?" She asked, her curiosity overtaking her sense. She looked over to see Taehyung smiling shyly at her. "The problem is.. you and I.. aren't friends." He said slowly, as if he wasn't sure how to put his thoughts into words.
Somi was caught off guard by this and simply frowned in response. "I like to be friends with everybody in my classes, it just.. It's what I do, who I am, you know?" Taehyung explained with a hint of pride in his voice. Somi couldn't relate to anything he had just said, but she let him continue. "And.. you are kind of the only one I'm not very close with in this class." He paused, biting his lip, before finishing. "I'd like to change that. I mean, I'd like to get to know you."
Somi didn't say anything for a while, and just carefully examined a spot on the floor.
She had been prepared to shoot back a sarcastic remark or just plain ignore this kid, but something told her not to. Taehyung spoke with nothing but honesty in his words; it was hard not to immediately trust him. And trust was not something Somi took lightly.
Somi sighed quietly. She knew she was overthinking, a bad habit of hers, but she also knew she was about to make a mistake.
Despite her doubts and every fibre of her being telling her not to, Somi finally looked back over at Taehyung, who was gazing expectantly at her.
"Yeah, fine, whatever." She shrugged nonchalantly, but it was enough for Taehyung to immediately break into an unbelievably wide grin.
