Liquid Death

Poor Emma, my poor sister. Who would have ever wanted to do this to her? Everyone liked her, she made everyone like her, she loved being liked. If she had hurt someone in any way she would go back to them and make things right just because she wanted that person to like her. The police found her body last week, she's dead, has been for a few days. I just find it strange that I hadn't realized she was gone, then again she was gone most of the time anyway.

There were times when she wouldn't even call or text, she'd just drive out to some other town and spend a few nights there partying and picking up a few guys. So it wasn't an unusual thing for her to go missing for a few days at a time, but it was never more than a few days.

Like I said, it's been a week since they found her body, we had the funeral without her body because they are still holding on to her in case they hear some news about the person who did this to her or in case they find something else on her body. They aren't moving fast enough, if they spend anymore time just examining her body then her murderer will escape and the case will go cold. If they aren't going to do their jobs, then I'll have to do it for them. I'm taking the matter of this murder into my own hands.

Last night I went to her boyfriend's house to interrogate him. Andrew told me that he hadn't seen her for three days and then he found out she was dead when I told him after the police found her body. He had told me that him and Emma hadn't been getting along very well the last few days before she went missing and he felt bad, almost like he'd done something to drive her to go somewhere with another guy and get herself killed. He's thinking it's a suicide and not a homicide, but I know that's wrong, Emma didn't want to die, she loved living too much.

Today I am planning on going to check out Emma's best friend. Erin and Emma were close, closer than Emma and anyone else. Emma trusted Erin with more than just her life, she trusted her with every secret she kept from our parents and from me and Andrew.

I reach out and knock hard on the door. I smile and wait for an answer. Erin comes to the door, her eyes are red and her mascara is running. It looks like she's been crying since the day Emma's body was found.

"Can I come in for a moment? I would like to ask you a few questions."

She nods her head and moves form the doorway, but doesn't speak. I follow her into the living room and sit on the couch across from her. I smile politely at her sad face.

"What do you want to know?"

"I want to know where you were those three days that Emma was missing."

"I was at the cabin with Tony and Erica. We wanted to have a fun get-away weekend and my parents agreed to let us use the cabin."

"Where are Tony and Erica now?"

"Erica is dead. She was murdered too, they say it was rat poison. The police think that it may have been a suicide, but I know better. Erica loved her life, she'd never want to die."

"And Tony?"

"I haven't seen him for two days. The last time we spoke he said he needed some space and that he would find me when he was ready. So I haven't called or texted as much as I want to. I've been in his place before."

"I'm sorry."

"No, it's alright. I'm trying to be understanding because I love him."

"It's too bad that Erica is dead too. I wanted to talk to her too. She knew Emma better than I did, not as well as you, but still better than me. I was hoping she'd know something."
