"H-hey." Angel tapped my shoulder.

I jumped and slapped his hand off.

"U-um I just wanted to say thanks... For saving me back there... "

"Its fine." I looked infront of me again. I couldn't help but feel bad... but my body moved on its own. Almost on impulse...

Angel's POV

She saved me.... I can't believe it. I was actually saved by this little bitch.

I looked over at her. She was trying to keep a straight face, but I could see in her eyes that she was terrified and worried.

I should atleast thank the brat... After all, I'd be one of those if it weren't for her.

"H-hey." I reached out and touched her shoulder. She jumped foward and looked at me with fear.

"I just wanted to say thanks..."

"Its fine." She almost mumbles the words. She looked infront of her again and the whole car turned quiet again. I looked over to Carl, who was now glaring at me.

Great...

Melanie's POV

"Turn left." Kathryn turned left like I said.

"Here. Stop the car." She parked the car in front of my small white house. Me and Carl ran out.

"If anything happens, call me. Got it?" Kathryn looked at us with a stern look.

"Yeah." I said.

"Got it." Carl confirmed.

Me and Carl got out and ran to our houses. I looked over to see a head with no body. It looked over at me and growled louder. I ran to the door and opened it with my spare key.

"Dad!" I yelled as I entered the house with caution.

"Mel!" That was Callie, my little sister!

I was about to run toward the bedroom door before I heard groans behind me.

No... please...

I turned to see Brandy... My little sister with her leg only bone and most of her face gone. The six year old child looked at me with hunger.

"No..."

She growled at me loudly before running towards me. I used my bat and beat her head open. I kneeled down and began to cry loudly. At that moment Carl along with Angel ran in. Carl hugged me tightly as I cried in his chest.

"Melanie..." I looked up to see my sister in tears. She was wearing her favorite blue jeans, her green top and her brown hair that used be curled, now a mess and wavy. I got up and ran towards to her. I hugged her tight as we both fell in tears.

"Where's Ethan?" I asked Callie.

"He went with dad somewhere. They left me here to take care of Brandy and then... Those things, they grabbed her, but I couldn't do anything. Her screams, Mel, the way she screamed..." She turned pale and began to cry in arms.

"Mel..." I turned to Carl. He put his arm on my shoulder. "We have to go..."

"What about your family?" I asked Carl. His face turned sad. He tried to put on his best smile but shrugged. His eyes were sad and a little scarred.

"What about Lori?" His face grew pale and small tears formed.

"Carl..." I hugged him tight. He hugged back. Callie then hugged him too.

"Guys..." Angel said.

"Let's go." Carl let go of me and Callie.

"Wait!" Callie ran for a few a minutes and came back with two duffle bags and a back pack.

"Okay." We headed out and louded the back of the jeep with the supplies Callie got.

"What's in there?" Kathryn asked.

"Canned food that wont go bad, some clothes, dad's two guns, and some medicane we had." She glowed with confidence. For a 13 year old, she was pretty optimistic.

"Okay then." Kathryn started the car and we headed out.

I looked back at Carl. He was looking out the window with sadness in his eyes. He noticed me and gave me a week smile.

Carl's POV

What's going on...

Why are we going through this?

When I went to the house, it was quiet. No one was inside and everyone was gone. There was no sign of blood being shed or anything broken.

All the photo albums were stolen, clothes were missing, and there wasnt any more food left in the pantries or in the fridge.

I turned around to see Mel looking at me. I knew she was worried. I gave her the best smile I could give her right now. She sighed. I turned back to the window not knowing what else to do. She didn't know either.

I'm so tired....

Kathryn's POV

All the kids have fallen asleep. We're going anywhere but here. The radio says to go to Atlanta, but I don't think it'd be smart to go to a big city.

I dont know what we'll do, but all we can do now is keep eachother alive. Even if it means living in the wild and doing whatever it takes to keep ourselves together.

I suddenly smelled smoke. I turned to see the whole town in flames. Helicopters dropped bombs. We were long gone by that time and I'm glad we made it out when we did. I felt sweat drop down my face....

Please.. I looked toward the kids

Please dont leave me like Alex did...
