Violet wasn't sure what was more baffling; the fact that she might have stumbled across another one of her kind, or the fact that she was now sitting awkwardly at the local coffee shop with this 'Kivu'.
"Here." He said in a rather stale tone as he handed Violet a cup of coffee.
The steam rose from the small opening in the lid; it danced in a way that was almost mesmerizing before vanishing. Violet watched it curl and writhe in front of her."Earlier... You asked me if I was a Reaper... No human I've met has ever known anything about 'Reapers'.. Therefore I'm going to assume one of two things. A: You've known a Reaper at some point in your life, or- "
"I am a Reaper."
Kivu merely stared at Violet. It appeared as if he was waging a war in his own head; trying to decide whether to snap at being interrupted or heed the gravity of what this could mean. But if Violet was going to be honest, did she even have any idea what this could mean?
There was yet another period of silence between the two. The coffee shop buzzed around them while they sat in their own cloud of awkwardness and confusion.I always felt like I couldn't be the only one, deep down inside... I never thought I'd see the day I was actually right. Violet thought to herself.
Once again, Kivu broke the silence. But not with words. A long and exasperated sigh left his mouth; it was like every thought that was whirring around in his head left all in that one, effortless sigh.
"Are you the only one?" He asked, already guessing Violet's answer.
"Yes."
"I see..."
"So... Why are you here?" Violet sat and thought for a moment. For someone that was a self-acclaimed genius when it came to read in other people and their intentions, she was drawing blanks on this mysterious, other Reaper.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Kivu replied.
"Try me."
He sighed again, this time not as drowsily sounding as before.
And there it was.
Another uncalled for and definitely not welcome pause. The coffee shop was growing less busy as closing time neared. What would happen next? Surely there was some reason that he was really here. All there was to do was keep pushing and wait for the right time to ask again.
"So, what is your name? I don't believe I caught it in the midst of that little accident back there.." Kivu lowered his head slightly and leaned into sipping his coffee.
"Violet." She murmured.
"Lovely name... My grandmother was also named Violet. Rest her soul." Kivu said softly as he took a moment to reminisce.
"Well, Violet. I'll be seeing you later." He said as he swiftly stood up from his seat, a light breeze gracing Violet's face as he stood."What do you mean? Where are you going?" She asked.
No, he wasn't about to leave. Not now; not after all these years she'd thought she were the last one of her kind on this miserable planet."Like I said. I'll see you again." His voice was a whisper.
And just like that, he vanished. Vanished just like the steam from her coffee cup. Violet looked around; she had never knew of any Reaper to have the ability to vanish like that. He was different; a good different. After leaving the coffee shop and making her way home, Violent couldn't shake this feeling. A feeling in which she couldn't put into meager words.
No.
Words weren't worthy of this feeling. And who was to blame?
Kivu.
Violent was burning to know more of this mysterious stranger, this mysterious stranger that was...like her. He was a Reaper. Maybe this unshakeable feeling was nothing more than a bad case of children's curiosity. Or maybe something more intricate and complex. Violet couldn't determine that just yet, though. For now, her only option was to just wait.
Wait until whenever it was Kivu, would decide to come back.
Wait until he would tell her why he was here.Fate wasn't something Violet usually would indulge in, but this felt like more than just some coincidence.
