The next day Maddy woke up curled next to Aly she never really knew why she slept closer to Aly than her other teammates she just always had. Maddy loved waking up next to Aly she looked so peaceful sleeping next to her. Aly woke up a few minutes later "Morning sunshine" Aly smiled at her "Geez took you long enough to wake up lets go for a walk come on Aly" Maddy pulled her up. "Ugh I just woke up do we have to" "Come on please for me?" Maddy made a pouty face and Aly could never say no to that. "Fine let me just go change"
Aly quickly changed into USA leggings and a blue USA T-shirt, Maddy secretly loved when she wore leggings. Maddy grabbed Aly's hand and pulled her towards the door excited to take her to a secret spot she had heard of. Aly's hand burned at the feeling of Maddy's hand in hers. She lost the feeling almost as quickly as she had gained it. Aly followed the younger girl eager to see where she was taking her. They had the day off since they had just completed World Championships and Maddy had a whole day planned for Aly. Aly knew that if it were up to her she would just be spending the whole day in bed but she could never say no to the younger girl. Finally they reached a sign that read "Globally renowned hiking trails" Maddy couldn't contain her excitement she had always loved hiking but since she devoted all of her time to gymnastics she had never really gotten a chance to hike that often. Aly on the other hand wouldn't have picked hiking as an activity to do on their few days off but was more than happy to do whatever made her teammate smile."
Maddy led the way talking about how excited she was for the upcoming Olympics and spending more time with the whole team. They eventually reached the top of the mountain and the views were spectacular. "Gosh it's so beautiful up here" 'Not as beautiful as you' Aly thought. 'Shit Aly stop thinking like that she doesn't like you that way'
The two of them sat down and ate sandwiches Maddy had packed earlier taking in all the breathtaking views. They stayed like that until nightfall. "Do you want to go" Maddy asked Aly knowing how much Aly hated bugs and there were many starting to come out. "No, it's so beautiful here I just want to take it all in while I can." Maddy laid back down next to Aly and they sat there quietly shoulders brushing each other every time they took a breath.
"Maddy I - I" Aly's palms were sweating as she started to talk her heart rate picking up speed. "Aly are you okay" "Maddy I can't do this anymore"
"Do what?"
"Go around pretending like I don't have feelings for you"
"Aly I-"
"Shh just let me talk, Maddy from the first day I met you I knew you were special, every time I see you my heart races and I start to smile. I don't know what it is about you, but no matter how much time we spend together I always want to spend more with you. Maddy I - I'm sorry you probably don't want to talk to me anymore I'm so sorry"
"Aly can we just go back to the hotel room"
"Sure" Aly's heart sank as those words came out of Maddy's mouth.
Maddy grabbed Aly's hand and held it tight reassuring her that maybe just maybe Maddy had the same feelings for Aly as she did her.
They walked back down the path never letting go of each others hands until they got near the hotel where they knew the press would be waiting.
