The deafening silence of the night sent a chill up Kaneki's spin. She had fought off at least 5 lower class investigators without any problems, but she could not help but wonder why it was so eerily silent now.
Kaneki saw no sign of anyone in the alley's below the building she was perched on, which again, struck her as odd. Kaneki was lost in her thoughts until the aroma of flesh perforated her nostrils. She could feel the hunger skulk to the surface, and without hesitation she headed in the direction of the appetizing smell.

Amon held his bicep tightly as the ruby red liquid oozed from his wound. He leaned against the dumpster closest to him and slid to the ground slowly.
"Heh.. Go figure that I would be the one to get a chunk of my arm ripped off. Fucking Ghouls are the reason the world has gone to shit."
Chuckling dryly to himself he was startled by the sound of approaching footsteps."It's not just my fellow ghouls that caused this. The humans they hunt have done their fair share, too." That voice.. He had heard it before.
-Flashback-
Amon stood dumbfounded by the words this hysterical ghoul had just spoken. Humans are to blame too? What a curious Ghoul.
Even more curious is why she hasn't killed me yet. Amon stared at the charcoal-haired ghoul, but could not see her eyes, why is she taking her eyes off the enemy? "Go.. Investigator.." He felt the world slow to a halt. "Please.. PLEASE! I don't want to kill you.."
The Ghoul looked at him with tear filled eyes. "Please don't make me a killer.." Amon bolted away from the sorrowful ghoul, and when he glanced back she was already gone.
-End Flashback-
"You're.. you're that ghoul from before. The one who spared my life." She looked upon the wounded investigator silently before smirking behind her mask. "So, we meet again, Investigator."

Kaneki was fighting off the hunger that was ebbing away at her composure. "I get the feeling that your injury wasn't an accident, like a misplaced javelin. Am I right, Investigator?"
He slightly grinned at her, "I wish that were the case. Unfortunately, it was more like a purposfully placed kagune, but I suppose its better than the teeth of a crazy moon-masked ghoul."
(A/N italicized text in quotes are thoughts, not dialogue.) "Fucking Tsukiyama, he never learns." Kaneki bent down in front of the Investigator tilting her head slightly at his unwavering composure.
"Why aren't you afraid of me, Investigator? Moon Moon is my fellow comrade, what if I partake in consuming your flesh next?"
This earned Kaneki a soft chuckle from the injured man. "I know you wouldn't hurt me." She leaned in a bit more. "I have, remember?" She tapped his shoulder. "In our first encounter I took a bite out of you, right here."
Amon looked at her sternly. "Yes, but you showed remorse, you yourself said that you didn't want to take my life. You do not enjoy killing humans, from what I can tell. You confided in me at our last battle about how you didn't want to eat anymore, as if you'd given up all hope. I cannot fear you because I pity you far greater than anything else."
Kaneki hung her head, covering her eyes with her snow colored hair. "You are correct. I do not wish to eat humans, However, I have killed about 5 of your subordinates already. I became strong.. because I could no longer remain weak." The wind brushed the hair from her eyes to reveal her singular ruby eye. But once she did a slow once over of the Investigator she felt her hunger sink back into her.
He looked up at her with sad eyes, pleading eyes, fierce eyes. Sighing quietly to herself, she began reaching up for her mask. "I don't usually do this, but, seeing as we like to run into one another, I feel it's only fair you see my full face instead of this silly mask," She said, trying to keep her breathing even as her hunger subsided.

As he watched on, Amon saw what was hidden by the mask, a sharp breath following the mask hitting the ground. What shocked him, he found, was how normal she looked beneath her mask compared to what he had seen in the field.
"You know, I was once a human, just like you and those that hunt my friends. I'm still human, in many ways, in fact. I love as a human does, the cool breeze on my skin and the grass between my toes, the simple things people tend to overlook. I feel loss, sometimes at a level no being should have to, and I hurt when I'm injured or sad," Kaneki said out loud, both to herself and to Amon.
"You know, I really shouldn't be hunted purely because I'm a Ghoul," She continued. "Just because the others hunt humans for their flesh doesn't make me as evil or as heartless as them."
Standing slowly, he took her newly discovered features in, from the corner of her jawline to the point of her nose. Once he gained his footing, Amon reached out and cupped one cheek, tilting his head softly as he felt her face relax into his hand.
As suddenly as she relaxed, her glowing eye began to react erratically. "Fucking Investigators... I thought I lost them, apparently not," she said as she quickly slipped her mask over her face again. "Until we meet again, Investigator.." She said as she took off toward the nearest rooftop.
