Chapter 4
Shizuo

What?

"Izaya, stop screwing around," Shizuo said assertively. "Take this seriously, I need answers. Why did you let yourself fall? Why did you bring Vorona into this?"

"As I said, I've never met you before," Izaya repeated. "Look for someone who has."

The bustling in the open room grew dull in Shizuo's ears. For weeks he had been pacing back and forth in his apartment, curiosity keeping him awake at night, and the anger he had in his own reliability and mental strength left him with nothing on his mind but his enemy, who had unconsciously become the victim.

"Now," Izaya's sing-song attitude suddenly dropped to a stone-cold order. "Get out before I scream."

"No," Shizuo growled, hating the sound of patronizing commands.

"I don't want to see you here anymore!"

"I still have 5 minutes."

"Get out before I stand up and make a restraining order!"

Shizuo felt his temper disappear. Stand up...?

"Izaya...you can't-..." He couldn't continue. The nurses had specifically told him that he wasn't in the right mindset for the news. He hadn't been since the moment he woke up. Like he needed some professionals to tell him that! Izaya Orihara probably hadn't been in the right mindset since he was born! That damned flea!

Shizuo grabbed Izaya by the shirt and glared at him, their faces inches from touching.

"I swear, you little dirtbag, I will come back until you remember me. Until you remember what I did to you..."

He felt his voice break down, and gently, under the cautioning eyes of the staff, released Izaya's shirt. The informant's eyes was a complete opposite reaction of what he expected. Shizuo expected the sly, evil look that made him want to rip him apart. But the man looked terrified, there was no part of him that looked like the Izaya Orihara he knew.

Shizuo stood and glowered down at Izaya.

"Remember this at least. My name is Shizuo Heiwajima," he said, dully letting the words out, the words he kept in his heart. "Please don't be afraid of me."

The terrified look disappeared from Izaya's expression. He straightened his posture and gave a small nod.

"Sure...Shizuo."

The sound of his whole name coming from Izaya's lips felt unreal. There was no more Shizu-chan.

"Mr. Heiwajima is...is everything okay?" The nurse that let him in looked afraid. Of course she did.

"Why did you tell me," he whispered, keeping his voice low as to avoid Izaya over hearing. It wasn't hard- he had gone back to staring at that tube of toothpaste like he was when Shizuo first arrived.

"Why didn't you tell me that he had amnesia?"

"I'm sorry sir. But Mr. Orihara doesn't talk about himself much and he didn't have anyone that seemed he was close to. However thanks to you, it seems we can add that to his charts. Thank you."

Her words seemed to dismiss, so he nodded a goodbye and took once last glance at the wheelchair that was now Izaya's mode of transportation.

Shizuo walked out of the building. Shouldn't he be happy about this outcome? His enemy had basically been defeated. He wouldn't be driven all day to kill someone. No more nicknames or random ass battles in the middle of the city. And that was all well and good but...

The fire in his heart was gone.
